Messaging and iPhone

I'm using an iPhone 6s updated on iOS9. I can have text messages read by the car, difficult to understand at times, but can't read the text on the screen or reply in any way. Is this a restriction from Apple? Has anyone gotten the ability to read the text on the display or reply using the display? Having text messages read by the car is fairly useless. I know I can use Siri instead, but I'd like to use the system in my car.

I can see the message on the screen when I am parked (or just stopped and engage the e-brake) but I have never been able to reply for some reason.

I'll try applying the E brake next time. My previous vehicle behaved in the same way. Very frustrating.

Any reason why you prefer Hondalink over Siri? I like how Siri can read your messages, and you can send them, without having to poke at the touchscreen.

I tried applying the E brake and no change there. I also started using Siri to send replies and it works well. Just a bit time consuming imo. I'd rather see the message on the screen when it comes in. The synthesized voice attempting to read textspeak doesn't always go so well.
