2016 - poor AM radio

My 2016 Fit has the worst AM radio sound I have ever heard in a car. Muffled and muddy. FM is fine, CD is fine. I test drove another Fit, same problem. Test drove a CR-V and the AM radio was fine. But they told me the CR-V radio is not compatible with the Fit.

Anyone else dealing with this? My options seem to be: pay over $300 to install an aftermarket radio, but then lose the backup camera function on the display screen. Or, find a portable radio that will work in a car and plug into the AUX. I plugged an $18 radio into the AUX, the AM works great for local stations, but it will not pull in distant stations at night in the car.

AM works fine on my 2016. I haven't had any issues at all.

The local AM morning show I listen to on the way to work does sound as if it has more bass than FM, but it's nothing annoying and not even worth increasing the treble.

Hmm that's odd because I test drove another one and it was just as bad. As if someone wrapped a towel around the speakers. This gives me hope that maybe it's just some of the radios.

Same problem. Moved the treble up a few clicks and the bass down. All the stations sound deeper.

I tried putting the treble all the way up, bass all the way down, it helps a bit but still muffled and muddy. Still not close to a decent radio.

Thanks for giving me a reason to try the AM radio in my Fit. The AM reception was fine as I tuned across the band. I could listen to it all day, if I had a reason to

I wonder if it's an artifact of your particular location?

I guess is your location plus the am weak signal of the fit. You could instal an aftermarket receiver but it would look ugly. Other thing you could do is download tune in radio and lisetn to the station you liked. (USA cellphone internet is cheap and pretty good).

Other suggestion I would suggest is listen to audiobooks. Download some audiobooks from torrents and heard it in the way home or work. Is what I do and it makes me drive slower.

If not try switching antenas it might be the problem about there.

Dodgers, Clipper and The Kings are all broadcast on AM in LA. I'll just have to get used to it.

I've listened to AM radio in my Passion Berry Pearl, sounds fine. It is AM radio though.

I live in LA and you can add the Rams to your list of sports teams to listen to.

"The Beast 980" AM sounds the worst.

Maybe its just Bill Plaschke that sounds that way.

I'm coming from an aftermarket Pioneer AVIC HD radio on my '08 to the stock HU on my '16 LX.

The stock LX AM radio is a pretty drastic letdown compared to the ol' Pioneer HD. Muffled, boomy and reminds me of how a lot of AM radio used to sound, meaning not so good. Thankfully, I don't listen to much AM these days except for sports when I'm on the road, so I'm not looking to replace it anytime soon.
