So pretty much the same as most of us.

The other guy cares enough about tires to run a tire reviews site.

BTW, I was just joking around.

There are loads of people who run sites about cars that know less about cars than I do.

They just have the time and inclination to spout off about things they don't know anything about.

That's the world today.

I mean shoot, Trump is president and the only thing he knows about is being a slumlord (well and a racist...and an abuser...and a cheater...hmm, he's multi-faceted)
Fair enough then, I will dispense with the joking.

Sure, there are people on this very site claiming that they know more than anyone else and will spout off about anything.

While I don't know much about Sentury tires, I do know one thing, that anyone who would dismiss a tire out of hand based solely on it's price, is just spewing codswallop. Perhaps you have done a fair bit of research on this tire and don't want to point it out. Consumer reports call's the performance excellent and also gives them highest marks for hydroplaning resistance after running them for 50k mi. Discount tire users give them 4.4 stars out of 600+ reviews. Other review sites are calling them pretty good as well.

I do know this much as well, in terms of avoiding accidents and staying safe, being an attentive, practiced and skilled driver (especially in wintry conditions) makes way more difference than buying pricey tires.

I'd address your Trump comments, but don't wish to further derail the thread.

Awww. Isn't that cute? Mike, once again, thinks everything is about him.

I mean, why else would I come to this forum right?

Apart form spreading Nazism, obviously...

So sad to be so utterly consumed with delusion and hate. I'm sorry you're so far gone.

Happy Thanksgiving, Mike. For the sake of your family, I hope you're able to restrain your demons at the dinner table.

I am probably answering a little late on this thread. The Yokohama Avid Ascend GT has a little better tread design for All-Season tires. They will do better in the snow if you are getting one set of tires for year around driving aver the Avid Ascend. The GT's have a rating of 740 A A. the regular has a longer tread wear rating of 800. Dry traction is the same at A but temperature rating is a B.

Real snow tires are made of a softer rubber compound and they wear out faster in the hotter months. If you have two sets of wheels, buy real snow tires and run them in
the months you expect snow. Snow tires really do better in the snow because of all the little sipes in the tread. They have a little more aggressive tread but more sipes and a rubber compound that performs better in cold weather. Having a softer rubber compound also means you will rarely find one that has a tread wear rating.

I have an extra set of wheels for my Fit so I have the Goodyear Ultra Grip Winter tires for my winter driving. I also went up in size to 205/60R15. I have tested them for speed accuracy and they are faster by 1/2 second in a mile.

South of Baltimore, most of us are just not ever going to need dedicated snow tires.

South of Charleston, we might even try to make on summer performance tires, if we're young and think we have a performance car.

:-)

I'm still on the OEM low rolling resistance all season Firestones 185/55-16. They're really there because Honda made a decision based on the Fit's mission as an economical, reliable vehicle.

I'm in a Virginia home county where we do not get much snow...but it certainly gets cold enough that we want all seasons.

What I'm going to do is keep researching 205/50-16 because they will fit on the OEM alloy 16x6, and pick a premium high mileage all season sometime soon.

Nobody's going to like what I say next, because they are expensive, but I'm thinking of Michelin Premier A/S because I remember them on another, bigger car and they lasted for 75,000 miles before they had to go.

I would not look much at tires that are of a high performance vein, because I don't want to compromise the fuel economy too much. :-)

There's more than one kind of "performance" and with a Fit, "performance" is more about reliability and economy than anything else.

The Tire Rack configurator is very useful if you're trying to get a basic idea what you might want to do.

I just took off my winter wheels and tires; 2015 EX. It was finally time to replace the OEM Firestones. I've not been a fan of the OEM, but it would have been a waste to replace them prematurely.

I bought the Yokohama Avid Ascend GT 185/55R16 83 H to use with the stock wheels.

Discount Tire and Tire Rack have the tires at $112.00 each. Walmart has them at $89.82.

Discount Tire has a 10% off total purchase and $60 Yokohama rebate until 4/30/2020.

*Make sure to pay the bill for the tires in the 6 months promotional period or financing fees will kill the deal.

I like shopping at Discount Tire for the ease of service and good service, YMMV. They price matched the Walmart price.

$441.16 installed (tax not in that amount) before the discount and rebate. ~$337.00 total / $84.25 per tire installed after the rebates.

I did not get the certificates (insurance) at $18.25/tire or $73.00 total. Insurance is only sold because someone is making money on it. At $18.25/tire into my total cost per tire installed is 22%. Nope.

I did for winter tires for my 17 LX (Michelin X-Ices). And I've used them several times in the past on other cars. They get the job done decently. Never had an issue with poor service or screwups. I had a local family-run tire place I used for several years but they closed. If you have a general mechanic/tech you trust, they can buy tires and wheels and get that done for you (though the price and the variety of what they can order may vary).

The only caveat I would offer is to not buy tires that are a DT exclusive. We did that on one car and, years later, ended up buying different tires when one of the original four was damaged beyond repair and DT no longer sold that model (nobody else did either because DT exclusive). Buy a tire that can be purchased wherever you and the car may have unrepairable tire damage.

If snow is an infrequent condition that is generally avoidable, Yokohama Avid Ascend are fine.
Second for the Yokohoma Avid Ascend. I have a set of them. They are nice and quiet with great grip in wet conditions. Seem to be wearing nice and slowly with even tread.
