No reverse gear manual transmission
No reverse gear manual transmission
Hello there! I just picked up a new to me 2007 Honda fit sport with the manual transmission on the cheap because it doesn't go into reverse! I drove it home with no issues as all of the forward gears work great. Car does not go into reverse with the vehicle on or off. To clarify, physically the shifter cannot be moved into the reverse position, even after applying a good amount of force to it. I've removed the air filter setup as well as the battery to get a better look at the top of the trans, and even manually moving the shifter from the top of the trans it will not physically engage into reverse, so I don't think it's a bad linkage or something along those lines. Anything else I can try to get reverse to work before I start pulling the transmission out and looking for a replacement? Thanks in advance for any suggestions and comments.
Thanks for the suggestion! I pulled the back up light switch out of the transmission completely and it still doesn't go into reverse. I assume that means the switch is good? Thanks for the reply!
Got the old transmission out, and diagnosed at a transmission shop. Something was worn on the 5th and reverse gear and needed to be replaced. Quoted $1150 CAD for replacement, so ended up getting a junkyard transmission for $500 CAD instead. Just in the process of buttoning up everything now. Just curious if you can reuse the axle ring clips or should order replacements? The driveaxles go in and stay in firmly but just curious as I don't want to buy new axles in a month. Thanks again!
