12.7 Gallons in my 2008 fit (10.8 gallon spec)
12.7 Gallons in my 2008 fit (10.8 gallon spec)
I just filled up my 2008 Fit, base trim, after running the tank lower than usual, and clocked 12.7 gallons at the pump. Normally, when filling right when the empty light goes on, I fill around 9.5 gallons. Anybody ever drain their tank this low before and be able to fill past the manufacturer's specified tank capacity? 2 gallons over seems like quite a lot and so I'm suspecting foul play at the meter, but perhaps others have had a similar experience of exceeding the nominal limits of their tank.

Years ago at a rural Missouri station I put something like 2 gallons more than a full tank into a 1996 Ford Escort. I was cleaning the windows and let it go to the "click" so didn't see the reading until it finished. That would be annoying enough, but the tank was near 1/4 when I stopped so the real error was more like 4-5 gallons.
I went inside to complain and they told me that I must have kept pumping after it stopped. Nope.
Then they told me that I must not know the tank capacity, so I got the manual from the glove box.
Then they told me that the manual must be wrong. I suppose that's possible, but in 5+ years prior to that I had never come close to getting that much gas in the car even when closer to empty.
They then encouraged me to just keep moving down the road. I was by myself, and in a hurry, so I figured that a few bucks (gas was way cheaper at the time) wasn't worth getting into a tussle.
But, it definitely happens so if you have the ability I would definitely report it.

This sounds like a reasonable place to start a report: https://www.oregon.gov/dcbs/pages/index.aspx
Are you sure about the spec? The one I found here says it's 42l / 11.1 gallons: https://www.ultimatespecs.com/car-sp...z-(GD)-14.html
The rest could be in the filler neck or something. Although you'd have to run it really dry.

@mobby_6kl 11.1 gal is for the Jazz. The Fit is 10.6 gal. Difference between European vs US models. Good eye though. Having a 2010 myself and driving my Dad's 2013, I am confident in the 10.6 gal fuel tank. The gas station is ripping off customers.
