Check engine light and traction control light come on same time
Hi,
I have a 2012 fit.
Had a buddy do my front breaks. New pads and rotors, but not calipers. the clips that came with the pads did not fit right, he ground off a little bit of the "ear". Got it togeather and the CEL and traction control lights came on in maybe 20 miles. Clips were rubbing rotors a little, he fixed that and scanned the lights.
Came back misfire on cylinder number 4. nothing else. Cleared code. It was good for 100 miles and now they are back. No power loss. Had to drive 50 miles with the lights on to get home. It runs fine as far as I can tell, but the CEL and traction light came back. both at same time.
Any Ideas or help. Ive read posts that say maybe loose plug, but why the traction control light. and no loss of power if the cylinder is misfiring.
Thanks for looking at my post and for any help.

BTW, you most likely have loose spark plugs. Don't drive anymore until you check if they are tight. You risk stripping the threads in the engine head.
There are a few threads on spark plug & looseness/ejection here on the forum. Here are a couple to check out:

The two light dilemma
This happened to me after I installed a new air filter, and had unplugged the electrical connector from the top half of the airbag, and hadn't reconnected it. Even after reconnecting the connector, the engine and traction control lights stayed on. I disconnected the positive battery cable for 10 min. or so, and the lights didn't come back.
@Twiggrav Edit?:
Sounds like disconnecting the battery cleared stored codes vs driving to get the ecm to realize the fix. Smart move!
I love seeing new posts for this topic, because there are definitely numerous problems that can cause misfires. It's proven difficult to both remember all the causes and to effectively communicate to owners experiencing misfires for the first time with this car which specific things can be wrong. If you could upload a pic of the electrical connector you accidentally skipped, that would be tight. Maybe over time we can make a thread with images showing all the known misfire causes that occurred with and without user error.
I know i've personally forgotten many a sensor and vacuum line connection over the years on this car alone.
