need obd0 help - 91 crx
anyone have experience with a code 8 condition?
my crx is flashing this and will not clear. it has a brand new
distributor & drives just fine. the check engine light is not on.
code 8 is supposed to be for tdc/crank sensor, but are there any other
conditions known to cause this? [for instance, code 16 is injectors,
but is usually caused by the main relay]
thanks!

Any symptoms other than the ECU flashing the code?
Try clearing the code and see if it comes back again (pull backup or
backup/hazard fuse for 30 seconds).

Well, Main Relay term 3 feeds power to the injectors, but that feed is
taken before the relays themselves. I guess it must be cracked solder that
causes the ECU to see a no-voltage situation at the injector pins and thus
set a code 16.

agreed. i'll bet 90% of all throttle body/injector sales have been as a
result of code 16 replacements. the helm manual is utterly useless in
diagnosis of this fault because it assumes the main relay's functioning
correctly and sends you in a flow-charted wild goose chase that costs
serious money. the only point at which it /does/ mention the main relay
in the flow chart, in the '89 helm at any rate, it assumes it's a
cabling fault, not a relay fault.

A question then: What would be the symptoms, if any? Stumbling? Stalling?
Just the Check Engine light and nothing else?

if the motor starts, there's no symptoms. if it doesn't, it lights the
check engine signal & stores code 16. i've never had a motor cut out or
stumble with main relay problems once the motor's running.

I have! Sumbitch left me by the side of the road near Wapela
Saskatchewan. Just quit cold after coming all the way from Calgary.
Had I known then what I know now!
