Damn lousy Fit axle....grr
Damn lousy Fit axle....grr
so i was installing my KBee coilover after i got home today, and the rear installed just fine and the front was coming along just great till i got to the driver side...
a HS kid comes around and scares the crap out of me at 7pm(realy dark in my area) and tries to sell me newspapers....and guess what, the axle popped out....
after shooing the kid away i find that i need to reset the damn bearing
not knowing how the bearing is designed and trying for an hour to jam the axle back in...i decide to break off the large strap on the CV boot. After another 30 mins of grease flying around and me trying to put it back in, i get it in and clean everything up with brake cleaner (lucky i had a can still)
strapped that CV back on with a large zip tie...and hope it'll hold till i go to a shop tomorrow after work (80 miles round trip) to get it strapped down with a metal strap.
in summery if you have the axle pop off try to push the 3 larger bulges(when you push down on the large boot end closes to the tranny) on the outer edges. This is where the bearing either pop out or move so it doesn't set in properly. Or do it the hard way like I did.

mine popped out too (drivers side). It fell out once but i luckily put it back in, then i wasn't paying attention and it fell out again and didnt go back in for an hour and 15 minutes. I tried for an hour myself, twisting, turning, lifting the lower control arm 2 straighten it, etc.. Until my little brother (16) said he wanted to try. He gave it a shot for like 15 minutes and he got it back in.
main reason it popped out on mine was due to the coilovers having a higher swaybar mounting point. it twisted the wheel back since the pass side had the coilover already on and a stock strut on the driver side.
I had a jack stand in front of it to hold the axle in place but the swaybar tension twisted it off the stand.

This makes me worried, does the axle pop out real easy? Im not very mechanically inclined and could manege to do lowering springs or coilovers but if the axle where to pop out I think I would be SOL
I would suggest that you make sure the driver axle doesn't pop out by using a jackstand to hold up the brakes. If it does pop out, then get lucky wiggling it back in or do what I did.
that shit happened to me. but i got scared becuase the stupid kids down my street honked at me when i was heavily focused. yeah i ended up breaking that strap. after an hour of trying to shove it back it...rotating it and stuff. but in the end if i would have just broken that strap, it would have only taken me 5 minutes.
note....keep the rotor leveled with a jack or something at all times. this will reduce the chance of the axle joint to pop off. yeah....
oh and take the time to take the boot off. there is no chance in shoving it back in. it really isnt hard either...but you have to have those little things inside perfectly seperated for it to work.

just place your jack under the hub to keep it in place.
it's really no big deal if you knew this before you did it.

well it's a very common thing with fit's in the US...i think the Jazz is different since you guys have different suspension too...we have that 19mm bolt and you guys have that 17mm bolt for the front struts to begin with.
I need to get some seat time and I'll let you know. I'm still breakign them in. only have 80 miles on them so far and they are on the softest setting.
This happened to me too, I had to remove the boot to see what was going on in order to get it back in. I repacked it and slid it back in, however I have yet to find a reasonable banding kit to fix it with. All the banding kits I can find are total crap and don't hold tight enough, right now I am back to using hose clamps which I don't like doing because it makes it eccentric.

I had my zip tie on it for 80 miles and the temprature around here dropped to 40's in the last few days and I drove upwards of 80 mph and it was still on there. In canada your temprature hits a little lower so you might just want to hit up a mechanice locally.
