Just bought the FIT and 2nd day i scuffed the front lip

As i said i just bought the milano red fit and 2nd day and the freaking front lip is scraped. we live in a development that has a drainage grate that goes across the entrance to the neighborhood. i had no idea the the front lip was that low, and well it is scraped, you cant see it unless you get down under the the car but i know its there.... so do they make a scuff preventer of sorts? or what. i found that if i transverse the grating at an angle it doesnt scrape but what do i do about the damage? replace it? i wish there was a cosmetic fix for this.....

dont worry. there will be much more where that came from. don't waste ur money on replacing it because it's probably not noticeable unless u get on the ground and look under the car. Mine has lots under it but i don't care cuz it's not visible unless ur on the ground. =]

My lip is fine 2 months later. I want a J's front lip after my rims come in. You can have mine for a low price if you want me to let you know when, And Phil, is that a real green Fit? I want that color code, seriously I will repaint my car that color. I'm gonna print that out and show the shop when I'm getting tired of the NHBP! So sick!

ah, so funny you should bring this up as today i finally got around to taking care of that problem..

well i only had my car for 3 weeks before i scraped it. i had no idea, my last vehicle was a truck, i even angled the car but it apparently wasn't enough. now knowing this i try to avoid those situations.

hah the dealer forgot to take off the protective tape, i'm glad they did

it was kinda visible if you looked at it head on.. or even standing up, so this really irritated me being that its a BRAND NEW CAR! so in the meantime i covered up the scratches with vinyl electrical tape. it stayed on the car for like two months until today when i took it off.. i recommended covering up your scratches with that if it is really bothering you. with the black tape on you can't even notice it....

the point is you know those scratches are there... so thats what got to me, so finally i broke down and got some HERCULINER which is a truckbed liner and applied that to the front lip underneath. this way it won't be a huge deal if you scrape it again, which you will and it will keep the paint from peeling and falling off the rest of the lip.

it took me a couple of hours to apply. prep is everything. i was extremely careful as so how i taped it and also took care to scuff all of the paint with sandpaper. (during which i couldn't believe i was sanding the paint of a brand new car) but i am extremely happy with the results, it looks pretty clean.

you don't have many choices when it comes to this... you can do what i did, touch it up with paint, get a whole new lip, or.. live with it which most everyone here does.. (but that wouldn't be good enough for me )

clean? i feel like they should have put something like that under there to begin with.

(you can hardly notice it's there)

sorry so many pictures, thats my solution..

>HERCULINER, 3M painters tape, acetone, rubber gloves, sandpaper, and 2 hours

oh and BOM IS AWESOME!

Awesome idea with the Herculiner. That definitely isn't going to be scuffed up anytime soon.

I live in Arkansas and everyone drives trucks and SUVs and therefore the roads are pretty crap since they don't have to worry about it. I haven't looked under there in awhile but I can't imagine it's too pretty. Oh well.

The only way to prevent this from ever happening again is to learn how to drive a FIT Sport... trust me... I had that experience before... so if you plan to lower your car, think again =)

thanks, i didn't want to just touch it up knowing that i will scrape it again, i was more afraid of the paint starting to peel off eventually. now it doesn't matter so much if i scrape

mine's scraped once coming out of a parking lot, but i dont really care
cause i can't see it from the front.

unless it's gauged or something i'd just let it be. if it is gauged,
some sanding, spot bonding, sanding, and touchup spray painting
shall do the trick for me.

yeah, coming from my 99 mitsubishi eclipse to the fit I thought i'd be fine going over most bumps as the eclipse is ridiculously low, but I was wrong.

the fit is REALLY low.

..then I lowered it.

but the scrapes i have aren't visible unless you're under the car.

and let's be frank. if it's under the car I'm the only one that's going to see it anyways.

It happens bro, as long as it scrapes on the under part of the lip it is completely unnoticable. Just make sure not to ram a curb with the front lip, that can do some damage.
