Grimy Film

I was checking the fluids in my Fit, and I noticed a grimy film on the valve cover up on the fan shroud and there is some on the dipstick right behind the fan. I don't see any leaks so I really don't it is.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

You are breathing, and driving through, that grimy film. It's in the air from the exhausts and leaks of other traffic. It collects over time on your car and its parts.

Yes, but on my other Honda, it just built up dust in the engine compartment. My F150 is the same way, it gets dusty and dirty, but not really this kind of film. I wonder if there was something (greasy) left from shipping the car and it is picking up the road dust?

Maybe so, but the oil in the air winds up on your paint, then dust sticks to the oil. You wash the oil off with your car wash detergent, but you don't wash the engine, fan shroud, etc., every time you wash the outside. Your stuff could be some kind of adhesive left over from shipping prep.
