?uestion about CEL's

I went to autozone yesterday to get my CEL scanned to see what was wrong so I can fix it. When we plugged in and attempted to scan, we got "Operator Error! Please check connections..." and so on and so forth.

I remembered that my fiance's brother also has a OBDII scanner and so I asked to borrow his, and go the same message

My question is: Am I plugging the scanner into the right port? It makes sense to think that there would only be 1 port in the whole car that matches up to the connectors on the scanner.

The port I've been using is located just under the steering column, above/in front of the gas pedal.

Any info/insight/help is greatly appreciated. I'm getting tired of staring at that CEL all day.

Thanks
-Nick

Also, I have tried resetting the ECU by doing the whole battery disconnect/hold the brake pedal down thing.

Only time I've seen a random CEL is when I didn't tighten down the gas cap enough. Take it to the dealer, they usually scan it for free.

Whaaaat. Is it out of warranty? If not then just take it in to service and play stupid "Uhhh this light just came on what the ****...?"

Find a better dealer.

^^ haha I wish I could get them to do it under warranty. Unfortunately, I've got enough mods that they could probably take their pick and blame it on that one

and as far as I've found....all chicagoland dealers (that I've checked so far) charge $110-$120 for the CEL scan

I've scanned my CEL 100's of times with my scangauge. I can't clear them with the SGII, though, for whatever reason, but I sure can read them. It sounds like there's something wrong with your CAN bus or OBDII port. Unless you've modified the electricals in your ECU harness I'd take it in to the dealer and tell them there's no way your mods have broken your OBDII system. What mods have you done?

that is the correct port. Sometimes I have the light on but no codes. So either your CEL is going on and off and the scanner cant read it or theres a bad connection somewhere. If you have Autozone in your area, they do it for free.
