Honda Fit Sport ipod Link Review

I recently had my 07 Fit Sport in the dealership shop having the HML(Honda Music Link) installed.
I wrote a review about functionality and such.

check it out at http://drknife.com/blog/

One good thing, IT WORKS WITH OLD iPODs.
The HML worked with my "4 button iPod".

How does the TTS sound? And how much did this run you? I'm thinking about saving some pennies and getting one eventually. I might just get it from an online seller and have someone install it for me though.

Also, how much did the applique install run you? I looked at the install instructions and it didn't look so bad, but I'm paranoid about getting bubbles or making it crooked.

Just as I feared.

Unless your review with TTS is drastically different, I'll get a charger with integrated audio-out functionality, plug into the AUX input, and control the iPod with, well, the iPod.

I have a 40 gig iPod. I most often navigate by genre. I have several custom genres (for example, instead of just "World," I have "World/Arabic" through "World/Nordic.") I agree with the Nuxx review: I feel that going through all of that, with limited time to press buttons (say, to select "World/Indian" before it went to "World/Japanese") is actually more distracting than using the iPod to navigate. And, of course, all of those artists are going to be rather challenging to pronounce for the TTS. Heck, sometimes they're challenging for me to pronounce.

So, thanks for the review -- you may have just saved me $200+.

I will have pics of the stereo side soon my wife took the car to wkr and I took none yesterday.

The TTS sounds exactly like your computer would sound if you used its text to speech system. Even windows has this. I know Macs do because that is what I run. But I have run Win Xp and know that it has text to speech cabability. It is in the user guide for the HML system. You can find the user guides for other cars online probably. The Fit guide has not changed much from the covoc 06 users guide.

The install cost $86 (for the ipod link) which was a lot but oh well.
The install for the bumper thingy was like $25 also overpriced but oh well. I had already paid for it in the contract.
The cost for the ipod link was $199 and about $53 or $58 i can't remember for the bumper thingy.

I use a Mac. There are a dozen different 'voices' for TTS though. I was just curious if it was clear, understandable, and not grating enough that you'd wind up punching the stereo eventually.

I have not yet installed the TTS part. I am just telling you how it works.
I may not use the TTS function as it sounds dumb. If I install it this evening I will update the blog with a review of the TTS and post here.

I really like the adapter because it puts the ipod away out of sight and controls are on the dash. For me this will be most useful on long car trips where I can spend time randomly going through albums until I find one I want to listen to.

A big plus which I forgot to mention in my blog is that, if you have the ipod playing a song in a specific playlist and connect it to the link the link will pick up what playlist you are in and continue playing that playlist NOT shuffled.
