MP3 + the HF

The Canadian Honda Fit website features a picture of an apple ipod in the audio section... I was just wondering if the connection they're talking about it is very specific to the ipod... or is it basically using the headphone output + thus would work with any MP3 player?

There are 2 different connections. The standard 3.5mm connection next to the cigarette lighter can accept any walkman style plug from any audio device. The other connection is a proprietary ipod connection that is an extra option for the fit. It comes out in the glove box and also recharges the ipod.

Honda's(Acura's) ipod exclusive music link connector is not without issues -
First off if it goes into the Fit anyways near as complex as the current Civic it will cost has much for the install as the part:

Second visit any of the ipod user group sites and see the current issues some are having with the software interface you need to load into your ipod's OS to intergrate it into the Honda OEM head unit operations (mostly voice link problems though - don't/shouldn't effect Fit)
All that said I just bought a 30gig 5th Gen ipod for my soon to arrive Fit

The thing I'm not sure about is if you do put the ipod connector on the car does that deactivate the generic 3.5mm aux jack? I have a MPIO mp3 player that works just fine so I'm thinking that I'll just use the aux jack. My wife listens to books on tape all the time and it is also perfect for using a small tape player in the aux jack.

You can have both but you probably wont be able to use both audio connections at_the_same_time.
