Clutch riding itself and possible goof up w/ spark plugs

I know I should know this, and I tried searching.

MT 75K
Clutch seems to be riding itself when I'm doing "spirited" driving and popping it at a high rpm. I am sure I am not on the clutch at all (I've completely removed my foot and either put it on floor or touch the top of the foot well.

Thoughts? Is this the clutch slipping?

I also replaced the spark plugs with bosch platinums +4 and the engine likes to bog down and the power comes in spurts when accelerating (2.5-5k) check engine light flashes and stays on, then disappears later. I will see what codes its throwing once I find someone that can when they have the same schedule.

thoughts? valve adjustment? (I poked around for a diy, but to no avail)

thanks

1. Explain "popping it". What is it doing?
2. Put stock plugs back in, does it still do it?
3. Go to Autozone or whatever the right coast equivalent is and they will check the codes for you. Post them here.

1. When I'm popping the clutch. Shifting very quickly.
2. They were extremely rusty, I pitched them.
3. I will do that tomorrow (we do have autozone here)

The clutch slipping under heavy load is a pretty good indication that it's worn or nearly worn. 75K miles doesn't sound too unreasonable to me, particularly for hard use (spirited city driving and such like).

If you haven't done one yet, a valve adjustment wouldn't hurt anything. I kind of doubt it's the cause of your problems, though, which sound to me more likely to be electrical (broadly speaking). Did you check and adjust the gaps on the new plugs?

Obviously, knowing what code was generated is a big help in figuring out what's going on.

Clutch slipping for sure.

Here is the DIY for adjusting the valves you must have missed during your search

I figured as much with the clutch, wasn't sure though. Now I have to so some research on what clutch. Any suggestions to look into? I'm kinda lost on which brands to consider.

I'm getting the gaps doubled checked today. Instructions said to set flush, do not gap.

Loudbang, thanks for the link!

75k on a clutch is terrible I sold my fit with 140k miles on original clutch and it was driving like new.

As far as the clutch goes, I wouldn't waste my money on anything fancy. Can't go wrong with Exedy OEM replacement. I would get a lighter flywheel though ; It'll let the engine rev quicker ...and if you do do it, it will take some getting used to, but IMHO it's a great upgrade

Also, valve lashing should solve most of your issues (...and even if it doesn't, valves are extremely out of spec from the factory, so it should be done either way). I had the same problem at about 55k and once I set my valves to correct specs it worked like a charm ...and I got better gas mileage.

Thanks for the suggestion, I see that passwordjdm has both. But new summer tires are going to have to come first before a flywheel.

I had the codes checked.
P0304, p0302, p0304
All cylinder misfires. We checked the spark plugs and they loosen up a bit. It seemed to help a little, and the engine sounds happier. But it's still bogging on occasion

Valve adjustment is out of the comfort zone, I'm going to have to take it in for that.

My CRV had its clutch replaced at 170k. I've read horror stories of fit clutches going at 20k. Average is 100k, so I'm ok with that

I figure I should update. I picked up some ngk spark plugs and they do pretty well, but they are backing out a little, I'm probably going to throw some blue loctite on there.

exedy still has clutch kits which I'm gonna pick up, I'm having a hard time finding flywheels, any have a link or know one of a different model that fits?

NO NON NO NEVER put loctite on spark plug threads EVER.

If they are backing out they weren't torqued to spec in the first place.

And continuing to drive with a slipping clutch is a disaster in the making it is getting WORSE by the day DO THIS FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE.

If the clutch was slipping it may have NOT needed a new flywheel you may have gotten away with the old flywheel and doing nothing to it if you changed it when first discovered. But by continuing to drive it it probably needs to be re-surfaced at the least and possibly a new HONDA FIT flywheel at most as they are the only ones that FIT the FIT for a daily driver. If you are set on a lightweight one there are several threads on them in here.

Be sure to order one for a GD if you have to replace it. You won't know what you need now until they open it up.

Drivign with a bad clutch puts more and more stress on the pilot and throw out bearings.

Also, the heat from it slipping can cause damage to the clutch and pressure palte, possibly ending up in parts breaking and transmission damage occuring.

If you have a weekend and tools, you can do your own clutch pretty easily

I am aware that replacing the clutch is important, but thanks for the advice..

I have plans to change it next weekend, a buddy of mine has a lift in his garage, should be fun.

I did find that assaulttech does carry a fly wheel by Findaza, I'm trying to do some research on it now. It's pretty sparse. I might just put up a OEM one if I can't find any solid reviews.

I did find that someone uses a torque wrench to lightly spec it to 13 ft. I was worried about stripping it out, probably didn't tighten it enough.
