ECU Repair
ECU Repair
I was told my ECU is failing and causing my misfire (see 'misfire battle' thread). In a nutshell, one of my injectors is loosing it's firing signal.
A new one is $630 + programming
I did some digging online and found a few companies that repair and/or sell remanufactured ones.
I ran across these sites:
Ecu Repair Now, automotive circuit board testing and repair
I called them, and they do a flat rate repair for $300 and I get the same ECU back with all it's programming. They have a 1 year warranty.
ECM & TCM sales & repair service w/ 5 year warranty - 800 241 6689 Foreign Auto Computer Repair, Inc.
They will sell a remanufactured ECU (that needs programmed) for $300 or repair mine for bench time and materials (and keep it's programming). They also said they have had fairly good luck at removing the memory chips for the key/security programming and transferring it to another ECU, making it plug and play. All their work is also warrantied.
Has anyone ever dealt with either of these companies? I am thinking about going with the foreigncarrepair.com one.
Any other recommendations for companies to check out?
As a fyi....I also checked into HA Motorsports | Honda and Acura Engine Tuning Specialists!. They were quick to respond back to me and say they are not equipped to diagnose Fit ECU's. They do mostly accord and civic ECU's.. They also do performance mod's.

I just confirmed that it is a ECU issue.
I pried the ECU out of the car and opened it up since I do have a background in electronics. Right away I smelled the obvious somthing-got-too-hot smell. I found the injector driver chip right away thanks to a good amount of heat damage on it's case. A few comparison tests with my meter between the 'bad' circuit and the other three confirmed that it was fried. I am guessing the injector shorted and took it out. The original injector measured 2 ohms resistance while the other 3 measured 12.
The bad news.. I can't find the driver at any normal electronics suppliers. The first hit on google shipped out of Iraq. The number is STA464C. I found a few odd places selling it and someone on amazon selling it way overpriced (they must know it's hard to find).
Probably just going to send it out....

Go to AliExpress ,, several listings all in the 20 buck range.. I've had good luck buying weird parts on Ali express.. Just look carefully at the adds and don't hesitate to ask the seller questions if something does not align like you think it should the translations are odd sometimes..
I was hoping to find something that shipped from the US (the first google hit for the part was someone out of Iraq). Last time I ordered from China it took close to 2 weeks to get it. I sent the ECU out to a repair shop today. With the board being a 4 layer board and there being heat damage I didn't want to risk tearing up a trace. I'll update when I get it back next week.
I order a lot from them, I'm averaging between 12 and 14 days on most stuff, sometimes out a bit more, yes you don't get the instant hit but its available..
That part is no longer made by the original company... You could build a daughter card with individual transistors and beef it way up.. Iffen you was ambitious..
(I aint..)
