breaking it in

so i read on the manual that to break in the engine, it should not be pushed hard for the first 600 miles. what is considered pushing hard?

btw, i understand that ppl may say there are 2 ways to break in a car:
taking it easy or drive it like you stole it.

i have 300 miles on the car now...ive been shifting below or at 3000 rpm and not going over 60mph on the freeway. is that ok or can i speed up a little on the freeway?

and just to be safe, i plan to take it easy for the first 800-1000 miles rather than 600.

well i've heard a lot of different ways as well..

-dont floor it
-vary your rpms (dont keep it at a single rpm for a long time)
-keep it under 3000, like u mentioned
-it doesnt really matter because they break in the engine even before its put into the car

all of which is people giving their opinions. the only advice i can tell you for sure is do what the manual says... if something bad happens then thats what the warrenty is for... it wont be your fault because you followed the manual... (oh and while its breaking in, check the oil level when u fill up, i've heard some people's oil level dropped a bit during break in)

IMO, you've done enough breaking in. I trust honda enough to sell us a car that wouldnt break down the instant you redline it. I only lasted 54miles before i

if i vary my rpm and keep it under 3000...do you mean to vary it within that 1000-3000 range? cuz you cant really vary THAT much if you only have 3000 rpm to play with

as for the oil getting low on breaking in...is that just for the engine? how about the tranny oil? i have a stick shift...so i dont think we can check the oil level for that without lifting the car up and removing the screw. IF it is low (which i doubt), should i just top it off with my own oil? or bring it back to the dealer?

lastly, when should the first oil change be? until the oil indicator on the dash tells you? or 3000 cuz of possible metal shavings or 5k? so many different opinions i hear! hahaha

btw, i use premium fuel..since our tank is like 10 gallons max and i save only 70 cents or so if i were to fill up regular compare to premium on a 10 gallon tank.

as for all those points i mentioned.. its just different things i've heard... not all pertaining to each other.. so.. *shrug* i actually didnt vary my engine speed the first 600 miles... my friend from NY came down to cali and i showed him around LA so... lots of freeway driving and some traffic... got broken in in one weekend (600 miles).. lol

no need to use premium... the timing is set for 87 octane...

You should check the engine oil...don't worry about the tranny oil, imo it should be fine.

yeah i know the timing is set for regular octane...but if premium only cost like 50-70 cents more per fill up..why not? unless the premium fuel hurts the engine?

premium doesn't hurt the engine, but again it doesn't help it either. ur just wasting more unburnt fuel. Now unless u have a grip of mods plus engine management, then 91 will give u more power then 87. but for a stock car, just put 87.

like they said, use 87 octane, anything else is useless.

to break it in, drive it like your taking your dmv driver's license test or like you're taking your mom or grandma somewhere. don't worry too much about it. don't go drag racing every car next to you at the lights, and don't go trying to break the land speed record on the freeway. just cruise and chill.
