What exactly are the rules of a break in period

What exactly are the rules/limits of the break in of the honda fit? Like is there a certain rpm you can't go over or something? Please help and be as detailed as possible.

refer to your owner's manual for the generally accepted method of engine break-in. i think it's just don't gun the motor, drive smoothly, don't go over 3500 rpm? i'm not sure. just drive like you're taking your driver's license test and you'll be alright.

The owner's manual really does not say much of anything - one or two tiny lines and that's it. Everyone here keeps saying to read it, but it doesn't say much.

just dont drive like a manic all the time.... i drove it a little hard a few times but mostly just avg. my dealer said " they build these things so well now, just don't drive from NYC to Boston on cruise control... vary the RPMs a little"

what i've always done, is keep it under 4.5k, and make sure you load the engine at various rpms. that is to say, put it under load, stress it a bit. this will help the piston rings seal well against the walls. really though; the engines are already in good shape outta the factory, what you need to do is vary the rpms and the load, so that the ecu can learn the best way to run the car. after 600 miles, you should be ok to do whatever.

also don't change the oil till 5k (or the light comes on). this nearly killed me, cause i try not to go that long, especially on original oil; but is is important for the block to absorb some of the additives to keep it in good shape for the long run. i read this in another thread on here somewhere.

Make up your own "rules". Everybody else does. In the previously mentioned old threads, you'll find every possible opinion. Any driving habits that would cause drive train harm and cost Honda money in warranty repairs would be clearly warned about in your owner's manual.

The only rule you need to know about the break in period is DO NOT BREAK YOUR CAR. Derr.

Also, don't break into anyone else's car.

Take it easy for the first couple tankfuls. Don't get the oil changed until your maintenance minder says it's getting close to time. That's all.
Don't do anything stoopit, and Honda does the rest for you.
