Break Servicing after every 20 000kms

I have recently brought in my Fit to get the annual oil change, and they told me my breaks have to be serviced. I found this unusual, since I only put 24 000kms on it since i bought my '15 Fit 2 years ago.

Are they just trying to money gauge me or is this completely necessary?

The mechanic also mentioned that this service must be done every 20k km's. My entire encounter felt like I was being ripped off and they just want my money.

I was told the brake service was part of the B1 maintenance I recently did on my fit.
You get an annual oil change? Oh god, I drive way too much. I've already had two and I bought my car in March.

The B1 service does not include replacing just a cleaning and lubrication of the moving parts. That i what they are suggeting I would think.

I had my fronts done in Dec for the first time at 65,000 kms. New pads and rotors.

B1 generally includes a brake "inspection". Basically they look at the pads, run a finger nail over the rotor and drum to see if they are rough. 25k isn't too too much, especially if its a manual. My pads are hardly worn after 65k. What was getting mine, was the rust after 2 hard winters. Of course the less you use them, the more rust build is on them.

Honestly my brakes were NEVER done up until last week, Im at 65k.... They were "checked" every B1 (3 now) with each time saying the pads are in good condition. That being said.....

Despite them being "checked" with B1s, They started making an aweful noise. I brought it in, They "couldn't figure it out" (after looking at them for a good 45 mins) Until I told them to take them apart with me standing there, they reluctantly did so. And would you look at that, so rusted they were seizing shut, the noise was the rust blister/ring so built up around the edge, it was hitting the calipers. Why couldn't they figure it out? 3 hours later my Ge8 was done finally. Saying it was still mkaing some noise and I should replace the front rotors at $100 a side. I said Ill test drive it first. It sounded fine. They didn't charge me labor on the brakes after how idiotic I made them look, and I know nothing about deeper mechanics like that. heh.

Long story short, 25k and 2 years is a good time to get brakes serviced.

Rock auto has some decent name brand rotors for > 50 bucks each, and they have a pretty good deal on pre-powdercoated calipers for some models as well...
