Power or Speed shifting while racing which is faster?
i was just wondering what you guys do when you guys race... cuss i was jsut wondering if power shifting your cars faster or is speed shiftings faster? when i got my car i was told that because of the drive by wire (like the new Si) itll be faster for us to power shift the car so since then i usually power shift the car... so i was just wondering what you guys do when you race... Power shifting or Speed shifting? =) thanks

i shift by letting off the gas pushing the clutch in tthen moving the gear into the next gear let the clutch out and give it gas...
any other way your going to break something. What kind of racing are you doing? anything other racing then circuit or autox is a waste of time in a 90whp car, to each his own i guess

I have a short shifter in mine which lets you hammer out a faster shift, but I pretty much never power shift (I am assuming you are talking about matching the revs and then changing gears without the using the clutch).
Edit; Sorry, missed the last post. I usually don't hold the gas because I can't get the car in gear before it starts climbing on the revs and then you end up glazing your clutch. I do like to catch/match the revs with the gas as I am engaging though when I am doing more spirited driving.

sorry i was not familiar with the hip, cool, "power shifting" or what ever the cool name or thing to do to break stuff is. Unless you've got a sequential box you always need to let off the gas DBW or not (watch any professional driver or car)
autox you shift once and I'll guarantee you wont cut anytime off your runs buy "powershifting"

I always use the clutch. The throttle plate does lag a touch in both directions, meaning when you lift off the go pedal the ECU cuts fuel through the injectors well before the plate closes. That's why it doesn't really rev down for that split second, no manifold vacuum.
Can use that as an advantage, and if you're quick enough to get back on the go pedal before the plate closes, is *almost* like full throttle shift.
Not worth it to be bending shift forks on slow car.

the throttle boddy lags a bit so its pretty much power shifting already...just shift fast.
Well... speaking from experience shifting either way doesnt make it any faster.
Ive power shifted and "speed" shifted as you call it. It really doesnt make a difference or make it faster.
Im a pretty quick shifter so when I do beat on my car I just shift quick. My shifts are a combo of both. The revs stay matched but I do lift my foot off the throttle.
The only time when power shifting works is when your motor makes power at higher revs or you have a type of FI. (turbo or a centrifugal SC)
Basically to keep it in the power band.

Haha ok soo man terms. Hmm I think I would choose to shift with precision and speed. and not miss shifts. lol. Buton the other hand to be honest the person who originally made the thread [...] he can do what he wants.
