HPD B Spec Honda Fit NEW!!!
if you didnt care about the interior (even though i really do believe you can keep it all in with a little cutting and modification of the oem plastic paneling) my cage is very safe for DD. My body in now way comes in contact with the cage due to the fits interior size and how low my bucket seats are. usually the drives head is the problem as it is close to the cage. my head is probably a foot or more away from everything. also i do daily the fit but with the proper saftey equipment (minus a helm lol). I use 6 points and so do my passenger. not loose either, like legit tight setup. the only thing that can be kind of risky, is when you are strapped down, its quite hard to physically move your head to look around for traffic. this can be solved with a huge ass all view mirror like the one i have. i can see every spot around my car with 1 fast glance. nothing is blind.
custom is the best. it fits to your car and you can make it how you want. you can even steal some ideas if needed from pro tuners haha. (i did a few things lol sorry spoon and j's)
when i originally went to get a cage, i really didnt go to get a cage, i wanted a roll bar. basically my own custom fit version of the autopower roll bar so that i could properly use harnesses. I had NO intent of caging it. they quoted me 1400 for a custom 4 point roll bar with cross bars and harness bar in it included. then i was told about if i ever wanted to cage it, i really could just extend from what i have due to breaks in the tubing. has to be solid tubing and certain number of bends. why not just cage it? I was then quoted 2000 for a simply cage still with the cross sections and harness bar. THEN ! lol something has to be done with the doors! Yes, i could have waited for this later but why when my fit was already there and i want paint the entire finished product and not have to go back for more fab work and re paint again. why the fuk not, sure cross the doors. (i was originally just going to put 1 horizontal slop on each but... lol good ol' scca and nasa require X's minimum. haha) so the price went up more. the dash had to come out to install the A pillar legs behind the dash. I had the option of either gusseting the a pillar legs to the a pillar or weld them to it flush. welding was absolutely the best choice. the only reason people gusset is because they cant get close enough to weld it flush to the chassis. mine could be done. this also increases visibility and keeps it stealth looking as it hugs my chassis. while the dash was out, the space behind the dash needs to have another bar to connect the 2 a pillar legs together. dash was already out. ok... do it. lol so we got everything right? all is caged up and connected and all meets regs right? yes, but sense the dash was out and all, why not go ahead and make it an 8 point and connect it to the front suspension/ strut housings? hahaha bend me over! yes i would love for you to have your way with me. lol so it was done.
my original quote for a nasa/ scca regulated 4 point roll bar = 1400
the outcome:
nasa/ scca regulated custom 8 point (phisically 8 point, but actually tig welded to my car's chassis 16 times!!! lol) = 2500
really not bad at all for the amount of changes, labor, additions, tubing, me changing my mind over and over and constantly calling and asking questions and talking about this project. So i will never have to modify for a cage again. 2500 dollars later lol
the end.
4 door, 2 seater ftw!
SCCA Approves B-Spec Cars for SSC for 2011
Club Racing04/21/2011
TOPEKA, Kan. (April 21, 2011) – Sports Car Club of America’s Club Racing Board has approved the “B-Spec” cars identified by several automotive manufacturers for inclusion into Showroom Stock C beginning immediately.
Five models in all will be added to SSC, including the Ford Fiesta 4-door (2010-2011), Honda Fit 4-door (2009-2011), MAZDA2 4-door (2011), Nissan Versa 4- or 5-door (2010-2011) and Toyota Yaris 2-door (2010-2011).
Spec line additions to the class rules are available in the May Fastrack News, posted at SCCA.com. Cars may run shocks and springs from any manufacturer, although future automotive manufacturer contingency programs may require use of that manufacturer’s parts for full contingency compliance.
“There has been a considerable amount of interest in the B-Spec program, and there was no reason to delay the introduction of these cars to the National program in SSC,” SCCA Club Racing Board member Tom Start said. “These cars will be eligible for full competition, including the 2011 National Championship Runoffs® for qualified competitors.”
Several cars are under consideration for future inclusion to the B-Spec/SSC program, but will require some assistance to the CRB from the manufacturers, including the Chevrolet Sonic (2012), Fiat 500, Hyundai Accent, KIA Rio and Volkswagen Polo (if imported in 2012).
Spearheaded by Honda Performance Development (HPD) and MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development to promote a more affordable solution for late-model production car road racing, the B-Spec concept was introduced at the Performance Racing Industry Show in December 2010. For more information, please see the initial release at SCCA - Sports Car Club of America.
