i come from american cars and truck world where cooler is better to a point using such things as lower temp thermostats, using more coolant and trying to keep the intake cooler..usually cooler engine runs more performance and mpg u get

i know the intake on the fit sport get crazy hot at least mine does.....
would reducing the intake manifold temp help with fuel economy or performance??? and what would you use i was thinkin of like a heat shield or so..

The problem with a lower temp thermostat is the computer still tries to get the temp of the engine up to the original setting,,when it can't get there it thinks the engine still needs more gas (like haveing the choke on untill it warms up),,that's what gives you the poor gas mileage, it also clogs the coverter cuz your running rich all the time and idles like crap...leave the thermostat alone IMHO, there's more to it than just changin one part,,,

To be quite honest I was goin off my 86 GMC Jimmy,(not a very good comparison obviously!!!) I put a 180 instead of the OEM 210 and it ran rich as heck,,,I should have stated this and my limited knowledge of the subject. Thanks for giving us the REAL scoop , as you are much more familiar wlith the Fit than I am,,,my bad,,,,

I've had my fit for about 3 months/4000 miles and I just happened to look at my engine coolant last night and it was just above the minimum! then this morning I checked and it was already under minimum! is that normal that I'm already out?? I feel like I haven't had the car long enough for that to run out!

When the engine is cold (off) the coolant bottle will be just above minimum line. When the engine is hot, the coolant fills the bottle and as the engine cools down, it is drawn back into the system.
Go ahead and fill it if you want but don't be surprised when you check it in a few days and find it low again. If the bottle is full when cold, it will overflow (out the overflow tube) when hot.

the coolant is mostly water... it expands as it heats up, so when it's cold it should be, more or les, at the min line... nothing to worry about.

I fill mine half way. I have always thought that it was a reserve in case the radiator needs more. As it turns out, its an overflow reserve tank for expansion when it gets hot.
