honda motor oil

Hi

In the car manual Honda go on about using only 'Honda motor oil' in your car.

Now when I spoke to a few honda dealers about this they dont seem to know about 'any honda motor oil'

So does it exist or just a myth???

If i remember correctly, our manuals in the US say to use honda motor oil or any other SAE certified oil of the right grade (5w20).

Agree totally with the above statement.....if you bring your FIT to the dealer when it's time to change your oil....you will not have any issues!!
Hope this helps.

You can buy Honda labeled motor oil by the quart at the dealer over here. Obviously it is just re-packaged oil from one of the big companies. IIRC, it tests/tested almost identical to Exxon SuperFlo.

When you get it changed at the dealer, you're going to get whatever brand the dealership get the best deal on in bulk purchasing at that time.

Makes no difference as long as it's the correct spec/weight.

Im not having much luck with 'Honda motor oil' over here in the UK

If its just a myth then why do they ‘Honda’ keep mentioning it in their manual?

Why not just say use whatevers available so long as its the right spec/grade etc

I have owned several different makes of cars and have always been able to get the makers brand of oil no problem

Cant believe you cant for a honda!

Are you sure it's saying that about the motor oil? In our US manuals it says to only use Honda's products for the transmission fluid, but for motor oil it says to use any certified brand of the right specifications. I wonder why it would be different for you in the UK.

I quote from the UK manual:

' It is highly recommended that you use genuine Honda Motor Oil in your vehicle for as long as you own it '

I see. In that case, I'm as bewildered as you are.

Marketing baby, marketing. Honda just wants their taste after you've left the lot. Pay it no mind.
