DIY: Installation of lowering springs on 07-08 GD3
#22
dont forget that the front will need to have an alignment
good diy,
i want to lower my fit, but its already scary over large speed bumps lol
do you guys that have your fit lowered have any problems on steep driveways, speed bumps etc..
i would hate to scrape the front up
looks so good though

i don't have any scraping problems at all, but i have a base model so i don't have a front lip to scrape. when i lived in an area with steeper driveways, my fiance's sport front lips would scrape a little bit, and she isn't even lowered. so depending on your streets, if you have steep driveways in your daily commute, than i wouldn't suggest lowering your car.

I was told from 3 separate places today that the only alignment I can get is with the toe. I need a camber kit. So everyone who has just springs that got an alignment, did you have a camber kit? If not, the alignment is basically useless.

I have the SPC camber kit that came with the front bolts and rear shims. Never got the rear shims installed though. tire wear seems normal all around.

i just got the skunk2 springs, got a killer deal at the skunk2 garage sale at their facility, for like 124
my question is, if i do get coilovers in the future, im guessing these springs are pretty useless for the pro-c coilover b/c they are different coil springs right?
and my main reason im on this thread, i need help installing these, b/c i dont even have jack stands anymore, my dad got rid of them...does anyone know when they are having one of those garage meets again?

Yeah Skunk2 Pro C does not use the regular Skunk2 lowering springs. At least that's my best guess. I might be wrong lol. Just go to Midas, they have suspension technicians that know how to install springs I'm sure. Or go to a tuner shop.

great DIY write-up tofuman!
no, you do not need camber bolts for your camber to stay within stock specs.

You should contact Gimme...His prices are pretty reasonable for installs...

I had a question about cutting the bump stop,
since the car will be lower but still using the same shocks, it moves the piston inside the shock upward and closer to the top of the shock,
when you cut the bump stop, it gives you back the shock travel you would otherwise lose
but dont you run the risk of having the shock totally bottom out, that is having the internal piston hit the top of the shock case?
or, as i must assume, is there just way more shock travel available so that even with the Cut bump stop, the car would hit the bump stops before the shock bottoms out?

just wanted to mention...if you have a air compressor and impact gun, it makes taking the nut off of the top of the front strut MUCH easier.
first time i did springs on the fit, it was a 2 hour job.
when i lowered a friends car, it was about an hour and a half. very easy install.
and as stated in the DIY, there is no need to remove the rear tires....save yourself the time.

that really depends on the type of equipment people are going to be working. if their jack can't get the car up high enough, they will need to remove the rear tires to get the suspension to drop enough for the springs to come out. but if they have a jack that can produce enough height, then what you said is true.
