Engine Coolent level?

I picked up my 09 Fit (black, auto) about two weeks ago. I usually do much of the maintenance on my cars personally.

I cannot understand why Honda made it so difficult to check the engine coolant level. I cannot read the markings on the overflow container. Do any of you know what's the deal here?

Also, this is the first car that I have owned that doesn't have a crossed area on the engine oil dip stick.

Is this posted in the wrong sub forum or something?

If yes, where should I post the question in hopes of getting advice?

I have trouble reading the coolant level in my 07 Fit. It's near impossible to see the coolant level thru the bottle, and it's placement also doesn't help much.

I usually just open the bottle and peak in, easier that way.

Sorry I can't add anything about the 09s.

You might want to try asking this question in the 2nd gen forums, where more people frequent

huh.... i can see the min/max line on my 08's bottle?

anyway, mine was running a little low on the reservoire so i added
some earlier this year. it's not leaking, just seemed to be lower than
the middle area. was the same way on my 06civic ex too for some
reason.

Coolant is a mixture of water and glycol... it's normal for it to evaporates over time a little!!

I can't see squat on the 09's bottle.

Let me know if you want me to post some pics.

I agree that some of the newer cars (not just Hondas) are difficult to see coolant level on, when looking down from the top of the cap opening.

So, what I do is shine a flashlight behind the translucent bottle and look at it from the side. It's easier to tell how full it is, then.

Good advce. Thank you.

Are there lines on the bottle that show exactly where the fluid should be when the engine is cold?

there should be 2 lines. min and max. as long as you you're between middle to max line you are fine.

good idea with the flashlight.
