Need help 2007 Fit CEL!!!

I got gas last week and after driving for couple minute cel came on. Got the codes P2A00 and P1172 which I thought tightening gas cap would fix so waited a week still on disconnected battery and light went away. Soon as I drove for couple min came back on... Anyone can help?

I Googled it and got an Acura site which indicated that those same codes came on this guys car when his oxygen sensor went out. Might be worth it to have it checked out but that may be what it is or not.

p2a00 means your oxygen sensor is dying. I had the same problem. You're going to need a new one, and don't cheap out. You NEED the honda OEM unit. It is a special kind of wideband, and a regular oxygen sensor won't work.

Already only got 13k miles... Is this under Honda warranty? So it's not just loose gas cap?

I'd say that you would be covered under warranty. Check your owners manual/warranty booklet (in case the dealer tries to charge you)...emissions components (like an oxygen sensor) are covered longer than the rest of the car.

Good Luck

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but did you end up changing out your 02 sensor and did it or did it not remedy the CEL's you were getting? ... to my knowledge, there's only one senson on our cars right?

I'm actually getting the same codes you were so I would like to know what you did to fix it.

thanks.

I'm getting the same codes P2A00 and P1172, not together, but intermittent. They automatically clear within a few hours. I only bought my scangauge because the guy who just sold me this 2007 Fit said the CEL occasionally went on. The local Honda shop had not been able to find anything when he took it to them. They inspected the car for me before I bought and said it all looked good.

What are the downsides to just ignoring these codes and not replacing the sensor?

Don't you have state emissions inspection in your state? You won't pass if these codes are showing or they have been recently showing.... the computer is checked at the inspection station for recent resets and recent codes. A code that has appeared within a given test period is still considered a fail even if the cel is not showing any error at that present time. I have some experience with this and CO2 sensors in Connecticut. Maybe your state differs.

Emissions component failures are covered by a Federal Regulation. I think it was in the mid 1990's. A failure that occurs in emissions during the first 2 years and 24k miles is covered and requires that the manufacturer adjust the components or replace and adjust the components til you "pass" the emissions test. Then, up to 8 years and 80k miles the manufacturer has to replace any failed emission components. I don't know if they have to replace the components until it passes emissions.

I suggest you get it over to the dealer before the 24k miles to get rid of any problems.

Thank you. I have to pass emissions within the month, so that's very helpful. I've got 62k on it, so my Fit might just qualify for the warranty.

Hi,
I passed inspection without replacing the sensor. The 2007 Fit warranty book says that the Oxygen sensors are only under warranty for 3 years or 36K miles, and the dealer is being cagy about how much it will cost to fix. Is there any way to tell whether I need to replace the FRONT oxygen sensor or the REAR oxygen sensor?

I found two possible sensors. In the front section of the exhaust pipe this part:
36532-RME-A01 SENSOR, MIDDLE OXYGEN
And on the exhaust manifold there is this part:
36531-RME-A51, SENSOR, AIR FUEL RATIO
both parts cost around $250 retail, $190 on sites that claim that they sell the OEM genuine Honda stuff.

I'm getting a sense that it's the "Middle Oxygen sensor". The complete guide to ODB codes someone posted to FitFreak says that P2A00 is for the sensor #1, whatever that means.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Ken
