stripped strut

that almost happened to me. you might try an SAE instead of a metric allen wrench in the size that's just a little larger than the metric one that used to fit. Carefully file it down until it perfectly fits the hole. Now clamp the allen wrench into a vice in a way that allows you to lay the strut on it's side on a work bench. In other words, the strut will be laying on it's side on the work bench with the allen wrench in the top while the allen is clamped into a bench vice. Now you can place a combination wrench on the top nut and hit it with a hammer. This will give you impact while the center is being held in place by the allen. impact is key here.

(use metric! same as bottom nut, buy them @ Lowe's or HD) Double nut at the top turning against eachother and use another wrench instead of the allen wrench.
Lube the threads w/oil to help remove the bottom nut.
When it's at the top of the shaft remove the top nuts and turn the OEM nut off w/ur fingers.

Just curious - Did you follow my DIY? Trying to figure out how this happened. I could put in some extra warnings of what to avoid if you have any input.
Hope you got your axle back in without too much hassle.
Thanks
