Fit starts, idles and stalls: any help appreciated

I have a 2008 Honda Fit. The ar was running fine and left for one hour. The car starts, idles for a few seconds then dies. Pressing the gas while the car idles immediately kills the engine. The check engine light is not on when the car idles which can last between 2 and 10 seconds. The car was low on gas on E but should have plently of gas to run. The only thing Ive done so far is add a gallon of gas just to make sure it had enough to run.
This is the first time the car has ever had any problems. Ideas?
Thank you so much for any response.

I dont have much money, but anyone that can help me fix the problem, I will mail you a some tools I have lying around including a 1/2 or 2/8 craftsman torque wrench. My phone number is 757-771-1080.

Sounds like it could be the fuel system. When you turn the key to the second position (just before cranking the engine), you should hear the fuel pump turn on for a few seconds. The other thing you can do is replace the fuel filter.
