just noticed.

so, I decided to drive around without music today, and learned that every time I shift up there is a faint squeaking sound. Also when I start to turn there is a louder squeak. Any suggestions?

There was a problem with seats mounting bolts that weren't torqued down tight enough on some GE models awhile back.. When cornering or shifting you could be moving enough to hear the squeaking sound.

If it was something with your steering components you should be able to feel some type of vibration through your steering wheel.

Where is the noise coming from, and is it a seperate noise from your shifting noise?

Are you running your AC when this happens?

Could the sound be a belt slipping a little?

yes, and no. after i heard it the first time i had my ac on then i rolled my windows down to listen to it(A/C off). i only have 31k miles on my car so i don't think the belt is worn.

Its not that its a worn belt. But the mix of electrical usage with AC, DRL, and turning with power steering could all add draw on your alternator and the belt that attaches all of these components together. That could possibly be why you heard the squeal.

IF infact it was a belt squeal.

If it only happens when you're turning its probably the belt. Nothing to worry about if that is the case.

Next time you're out do a little experimenting with it,........ Turn on your headlights, AC, wipers, and anything else that could cause an electrical draw...... If it squeals more or louder thats the problem. Then turn everything you possibly can off and try it again.

Atleast by doing that you will either diagnose the problem or rule one possible culprit out of the mix...... and its on to the next idea

Maybe all it needed was a little lube . Hopefully the noise doesnt come back, but if it does we'll be here to help figure more out..........

I noticed that we all bought cheap ass cars and some of us expect way too much as far as noises are concerned

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to rid myself of those noises.

But maybe he cant afford to go out and buy an M6 or something.....

Reguardless of this cars price or any other cars price, you still want it to ride good and not be annoying (like the squeek). I have nice cars and I have junk cars, but the junkers still have great ride quality and no unwanted noises. I take care of what I have and the OP is trying to do the same thing with his car...... which is still a nice ride..... according to the thousands of members on here who also own one.

I would feel the same way as the OP if it was me....."I have to figure this out" and it would bother me until I did.

Some belts have a a type of protective film on them... Belts last so long these days that it is seldom they are changed... The old style V belts almost always squealed and needed an adjustment within a few miles of driving.... It has been a long time but when I worked in a service station an old guy that had been in the business for decades would spray water on the pulleys while the engine was running after installing new belts to prevent them from squealing.
