I have gone nearly 5,000 miles and the MM says the oil life is still at 70%. I drive 95% HWY and I assume my driving habits are making the MM freak out. Today I recieved a letter from the Stealership saying my oil change is due at 7,500 miles. Which is it, 7,500 miles or 15% MM?

-Should I continue to drive until my MM is @ 15%, regardless of miles?

-What intervals do you all usually use for oil changes (for HWY driving)?

-If I simply follow the MM will I still be covered under my warranty or do I need to change my oil at MM 15% or 7,500 miles (whichever comes first)?

-Will the MM decrease linearly if my driving habits stay the same or does it sorta "accel" down after 50% or so?

The manual doesnt say anything about MAX miles between oil changes. I didnt see a thread about the MM / oil intervals so if I need to post these questions there just let me know.

Follow the advice in the owner's manual, which says follow the motor minder unless it has been a year since the last oil change. Highway driving is quite gentle on motor oil, so having long intervals between changes is perfectly OK. I have largely highway driving (or more highwayish than cityish), and the MM said to do the first change at around 12,000 miles or so.

The dealer is simply trying to drum up business; feel free to put their solicitations in the same file you put the glossy brochures with INCREDIBLE DEALS!!! and MASSIVE SAVINGS!!! from all the other dealers. If you follow the instructions in the owner's manual, you certainly will be covered under the warranty. (On the other hand, so long as the oil level was maintained you could probably have the car running beyond the warranty period without ever changing the oil. It's not a good idea, and certainly bad for the overall longevity of the car, but the engine could easily last 36,000 miles with no maintenance whatsoever.)

 

It will start to go down at an every increasing rate as you put on more miles. We routinely put on over 10,000 per oil change.

 

Maintenance Minder or 12 months whichever occurs first.

 

Honda engineers know what's good for our cars; our dealers know what's good for their wallets. Use the MM.

 

4000 and mines says 60% i drive hard kinda and lots of city city driving

Wife's Fit shows 15% @ 7000. She has way more stop and go in her daily routine.

 

4800 miles and i'm at 40%.

 

So far I have been getting 10 to 11k miles between 15% lights on the MM. That is with a mix of country driving (speed limits between 35 and 55 with occational stop lights) and a road trip ranging between 300 and 1200 miles once a month (almost exlusivly highway).

 

Mostly city-street driving, MM @ 15% around 6k-7.7k window, which is ok by me. Takes a few cycles to get used to but the MM is pretty good.

15%. But above 7500 miles, one can hardly fault you for changing the oil. Any more frequently is foolish unless the MM recommends it.
I remember the days of 3000 mile oil changes. I'm not that old but these 1980s cars were still floating around when I was a teenager. This made for a lot of awful mid-winter oil changes. Now, I'm expecting to only change the oil once a year, so it can easily be timed for the summer! :P

 

I just hit 50% and I am at 5,600 miles on this change. I will probably change it at 7,500 regardless of that the MM says for my own piece of mind.
