VSA System Check

Hi,

I have a 2009 Honda Jazz 1.4.

The VSA System Check warning comes on intermittently, especially when braking downhill.

I bought a ODBII bluetooth scanner off Amazon and paired it with Torque on Android hoping to diagnose the fault code.

I now realise the ODBII protocol isn't compliant with a whole load of fault codes, including for the ABS and SRS system.

Is there a scanner out there that I can buy off Amazon / Ebay for a reasonably price that might help diagnose my issue?

Thanks...

You can buy more comprehensive scanners that read ABS and SRS, but these are gonna cost you.

Might be better to bite the bullet and pay the dealer a diagnostic fee.

+++++++++

That said, your problem description implies that you may have an issue with an ABS sensor or wheel bearing. (Most Honda systems monitor wheel speed by reading the ball-bearings directly...Have you had any work done that could be affecting the monitoring of the bearings? Any noise or looseness in the wheels? )

Another visual check could be a damaged wire harness to the wheel sensors from a rock, or other road debris.

thanks for the reply.

replaced the brake rotors and pads, as well as tires, over the summer but only noticed this a month or so ago.

when you say it's going to cost, are we talking $699.99 territory?

I am seeing some Innova and other ABS / SRS scanners on Amazon for $130-180 which I would be prepared to pay (although I note that at least one of them is not promising to read Honda ABS codes...)

If I remember correctly the local dealer is asking for $180 to diagnose the fault (!)

Can't comment on the cost since I haven't bought one (just shopped, like you). Some vendors charge extra for marque-specific capabilities (like ABS and transmission readers) so it's always good to ask before you buy.

That is a real Stealership cost for diagnostics. Many dealers charge an hour's labor to hook up to your car. (Even tho' it takes what, 15 minutes?) My exotic car repair shop doesn't have an hourly rate that huge!!!! Is the quoted cost in USD or Balkan dollars??? (If there is such a thing. GRIN )

I doubt tires and pads would cause damage to an ABS sensor, I was thinking of accident repair or control arm removal/bushing replacement.

thanks - as it takes me about 1 min to hook up this android Bluetooth dongle, even 15 mins sounds like overkill

the quote was from a garage in the DC metro area!

I'll trawl amazon and see if there are some that cover Honda ABS DTCs...

Are you paying for a nice Service Writer, donuts, coffee, wifi, and whatever Honda charges for it's DTS? (Diagnostic Troubleshooting System)

I understand some of the Whys of dealer prices, but I always try and do stuff myself, first (if off warranty).
