DIY input shaft bearing replacement help
So I've had this problem with my 2007 Fit that when I take my foot of the clutch in neutral, I get a pretty loud "tak tak tak" sound. As soon as I press the clutch, it goes away. So everyone I've read that had this problem is because of a bum input/mainshaft bearing. So I ask how much to replace the bearing and my mechanic says 300$ so I bought an exedy clutch kit and had him install that and then he drove it around and said that it's a problem inside the tranny and he doesn't touch the inside of a tranny. I think he replaced the pilot bearing and throw out bearing and thought that's what I meant my inputshaft bearing.
Anyway, I hope he removes the tranny again. If he does, I'll grab it and do the job myself because I don't want to send it in for a rebuild. I'm sure a pro will charge me an arm and a leg to change that stupid little 30$ bearing.
Question: while I'm in there, should I also change the countershaft bearing? What about the ball bearing on top of the other side of the mainshaft?
Also, I have a full tube of grey permatex liquid gasket left over from my valve adjustment since you only need a peanut size quantity to seal the valve cover. Can I use this product to reseal my transmission after opening it?
Thanks in advance.
