Noise coming from manual tranny

Hey guys,

It's probably a bearing, but I don't know which one. Essentially, when I engage the clutch, it stops, when I disengage it comes back. Any one know which bearing or bearings, in the gearbox need replacing? Thanks.

My first guess would be the clutch release bearing.

I'm not an expert in remotely diagnosing transmission related noises, though. I'm not even particularly great at doing it in person.

Drew is correct. It's the throw out bearing/ clutch release bearing. Try pushing the clutch pedal in just a little if the noise changes or goes away its time to pull the transmission. Throw a clutch in there while you're at it.

sorry to jump in on this, but does the bearing rattle up to 40mph? mine did this and it was the lay shaft bearing which is an apparent common fault with early cars

YES. Typically a clutch kit comes with the throw out bearing.
