rotor thickness

How do you measure rotor thickness on the fit? There is a "cover" on the inside of the inside rotor that doesn't allow for the old "coin and ruler/tape measure" trick. Any ideas?

I used a micrometer caliper. I thought that's what everyone did?

In order to use a micrometer caliper, you must first own a micrometer caliper!

Also, how'd you make space in between the rotor and the piece of metal/plastic? that is on the inside of the rotor?

I pivot the caliper out of the way. That gives you a nice spot to measure.

Go buy a mic, if you plan to do brake jobs the rest of your life it's a good investment so you don't have to monkey around with homebrew stuff. They're not that expensive.

If you use a mic you only need a very small section to access, there is room, I think it's right in front of the caliper, where you can squeeze it in there. Just poke around, there's a spot you can use.

For nine bucks (USD) this would do the trick.

Gotta love Harbor Freight when you need tools you won't re-use everyday.

Though I regret purchasing the $5 battery quick disconnect for the other car from HF which broke at a very inopportune time.

Their tools have all worked fine for me though since, like you said, I don't use them every day.
