2007 Fit Gear shift stuck - Please help!!
I have had intermittent issues with the gear shift not going into Reverse or Park, and have read about others having the same issue. I have an appointment tomorrow to get it looked at by my mechanic. However, when I got home today I could not get it into Park again, so I jiggled the wheel as I have done in the past, then it pushed into Park, or so I thought...The gear shift is at P, but on the dash it's saying it's still in D...I tried to get it to move but couldn't, so put on the park brake and turned the car off. Maybe that wasn't such a good idea, as now I can't get the keys out or get the car started again Any suggestions on how I can fix this so that I can get the car to the garage tomorrow without having to call a tow truck???
Thanks in advance!

I am not saying that this is your problem but keep it in mind if they find that the problem is the shift cable. I have seen this on multiple vehicles of different brands.
If the ground connection between the body and the engine/transmission opens up for whatever reason, then the ground path become the shift cable between the body (floor) and the transmission. This cable can not handle high starting current and is a resistance path to ground. This path eventually burns or arcs along the cable and causes your problem.
As I said before, I am not saying that this is your problem so do NOT go out and replace this cable for no reason. BUT..... If you do find the cable bad then consider this missing ground as a possibility.
