stock fuel pump

I'm planning to turbocharge my l15a with a goal of 170-180 whp. Will I need a better fuel pump? Sorry for the noob question.

i'm pretty sure you don't need to upgrade your fuel pump. Now if you where shooting for far higher hp #'s (300+) then you may want to look for a new fuel pump.

Depends on what fuel management you use.. If your using an FMU then yes, youll need to go with a performance fuel pump..

I would upgrade the pump and the injectors. Whatever engine management you use, you will be able to tune down the flow. I would also run a return system. It would be way more beneficial to have the fuel system in check before boosting.

I have had to pull off the throttle on the dyno on a little 2.4L making 500 to the wheels because fuel was starving. That was WITH a Walbro and RC 750's. Yet another upgrade to an Aeromotive A-1000 and -8 lines along with even bigger injectors. Save yourself the headache and get the fuel system together...Like I said, with tuning, you can always lean it out but at least it is there if/when you need it.

at 170-180whp, you shouldnt need to. You should already be running larger injectors of course.

Always plan ahead. I am not saying go with a huge pump....a decent 255lph will be safe for many upgrades to come.

Thanks a lot guys! but how about 200whp? So generally, at what whp will I need to change the fuel pump?

you're putting about 100whp more over stock, you still should be ok, but the only real way to tell is it depends on your turbo setup as well.

but yes, if u're shooting that high, you might as well get the aftermarket fuel setup to make sure u dont run short during tuning. you'll need pump, regulator, fuel lines/fittings, and possibly a fuel rail if u cant tap the stock rail. use the stock fuel line as return line. Lines and fittings can get pretty pricey.

another option would be:
-run stock system, make ~160-170whp. add water/methanol injection setup, retune removing some fuel/advance timing, make closer to 200whp, if not, further.
