Burning oil when downshifting (new car) ??

Hey guys... today I realized that my "exhaust leak" is actually burning oil... I noticed that it only stinks when I downshift to a stop.

Anyone experience this??

I've owned several Hondas and this is the first car that burns oil when down shifting - the car also only has 5000km on it (it's a month old).

Opinions? What should I do? Will it go away?

It's worse if the RPM's hit 4000 or higher just before stopping; it's mild smelling at 3000~3500rpm before stopping. If I don't downshift but coast to a stop there is no smell at all. I also don't smell any oil when accelerating through the rpm's (only down shifting).

Thanks

You sure its not just the smell of a new exhaust breaking in? And why do you have an exhaust leak on a new car anyway?

First thing I noticed when putting on my muffler is the Fit's exhaust gases STINK.
As of now, I have a cat-delete and a full exhaust.

All new cars stink when accelerating. Smells like rotten eggs at times. Its the gases getting filtered through the cat. Youre probably noticing the smell when coming to a stop because the way the Fit is designed. Sand, air, smells, whatever swirl around behind the Fit when driving.

Your engine is working in HIGH VACUMN conditions when decelerating which forces more oil into the combustion chamber.

K thanks guys... I removed my cat and have a straight pipe which is why I thought I had the leak (I did have a leak, but fixed it - but thought it was still leaking if that makes any sense)

Anyway, today I finally clued in that it only happened when downshifting and then I realized it was not the exhaust smell, but burning oil smell (similar).

I troubleshot - sure enough I can make it always happen when downshifting.

I will go with 'Claymore' on the high vacuum explanation and a bit of 'MX6GT89''s swirling behind the fit explanations

I'll monitor my oil consumption as well to make sure it's not taking too much-

Thanks all!
