carb legal intake

Hey everyone I've been looking around the forum and read about the different intakes. I have yet to find a carb legal intake for the fit, it is an at. Oh and this is my girlfriends car and not mine. I've personally have had my hood popped and had to go to the state ref, which is no biggy for me. The only thing is i know if she has to go through the same thing she would kill me. I have already looked into the lighter pulley, I'm getting that for sure. So if you guys have any info on this please let me know thanks. If nothing comes up in awhile h-fit seems to be a good choice right now...

eptree,

There are no CARB legal intake systems for CA Fit owners to buy. There will never be any until the lack of CARB exemption has a negative effect on sales. K&N won't bother applying, because there are not enough Fits in CA to bother with. H-Fit may get around to applying for the exemption if they run out of other design projects, but only because they only make their intake for the Fit.

In 2011 and 2012, when 5-year old CA Fits are required to get smog certs. and are turned away by the smog check techs., there will be a LOT of whining from CA fitfreaks, especially those that have thrown out the stock intake parts. THEN intake sales to CA fitfreaks will drop sharply.

In the meantime, as the air quality continues to get worse, other states (maybe even individual large cities with polluted air) will start requiring smog checks, and turning away modified intakes.

CA has the most restrictive auto. pollution regs of any state. If an intake system has CARB exempt status, my bet is that it will be accepted by any other state's newly imposed smog restriction laws.

You're very welcome. It's nice to talk to a smart fitfreak.

Carb Legal Intake

With some time before the car has to be smogged, I went for the option of a short ram intake on my AT Sport.

The Fujita Short Ram Intake comes with a duffle bag, which, after you remove the stock intake system, it dawns on you... oh, hey ! that's a great bag to put the stock intake in, and put it in the closet for later.

Enjoy the Ride ! !

I doubt there will ever be a CARB legal one. Reason being, an open-element air filter is not CARB compliant to my knowledge. You also need a place to vent the crankcase breather if memory serves me correct, and intake kits omit that.

My K&N intake for my '97 Ford F-150 had a CARB exempt sticker. Many other low restriction intake systems have the exempt stickers as well, so your statement is wrong. That does not mean that anyone will get the exemption for Fit intake systems (because of the low number of Fits being sold compared to other car models selling in much higher numbers). The low numbers of Fits is the main reason that K&N lied to us on the forums, and why they won't bother to apply to CARB for exemption on the Fit SRI's.

Smart man. I hope the other CA Fujita buyers were as smart.
