Spark plugs!!

I've got questions, I hope you guys have answers....

So the other day i was flipping through a Popular Science and came across an ad. It was for a spark plug called pulstar. Pulstar.com

Anyway the web site has a decent Q&A section but I was curious what you other fit freakers thought...

It claims 10 hp increase on a stock 350z, and it shows dynos....

*Search is your friend*

I believe somebody was testing these out before, sounds like people were having issues with the reliability.

Somebody actually did a dyno near the end, is a good read

Personately i thing the best plugs ''Power wise'' are still good ol' V-Power from NGK!! I would use these in a nitrous engine as Platinums or Iridiums + Nitrous = Potential Boom!! (Due to the suddently higher temps that tends to de-solder the Platinum or Iridium tip from the spark plug!) On a All motor engine, i would use stockers or 1 heat range colder then stockers depending on the tune and for nitrous i would use 1 or 2 heat ranges colder depending of the jets!!

If i wanted a better spark, i would try to find some kind of Capacitive Discharge or Multi Spark Box for a hotter ''High RPM'' spark where the coils have a hard time making a strong spark (due to Reduced Dwell time) as well as a smoother, stronger low end torque due to the multi spark and i would increase the plug gap a little!! Had a DIS 2 on my neon and swear the engine ran smoother and was a little torquier!!

BTW does somebody knows if the ignition coils get their 12v input from the same source... (Understand same wire!)

Marko!!

I am with you 100% about the V-Power plugs. I am using them in a GMC Safari cargo van with HyperTech programmer and Mallory CDI box and the difference is amazing. I tried Bosch platinum plugs and the pinging was so bad I thought it was going to ruin the combustion chambers. I was able to go two heat ranges colder and all is well.

Yeah!!! V-Power FTW Less internal resistance then Champions or everything else means a hotter spark!!! On a Safari i think i would use Iridiums because changing plugs on these is a PITA if you dont have the proper tool!! :P

BTW, i have the latest issue of D-Sport!! On a 350Z with the VQ35DE Rev-up equipped with a K&N air intake, a Buddy-Club exhaust and Mobil 1 oil, the addition of the Pulstar plugs gained a Whooping 1.9HP!! :P Money better spent elsewhere if you want my opinion!! :P

Marko!!

what abt Sliver plug, is it better?
Ref to some website so call better then irdium plug.
From the chart, show that copper plug (cheapest) is even better then iridium.
Just that iridium only long lasting only. Not sure how true is sliver plug is it better?

It's true that copper is a better conductor then Iridium but Irudium last way longer then copper... This allow manufacturers to make the center electrode smaller, creating a better firing plug as you concentrate the coil's energy to a smaller diameter electrode... The problem is that a copper plus with a center electrode about the size of a iridium one would wear out pretty quickly!!

I wouldn't bet on the iridium plugs lasting 1000 miles with a Mallory, HKS, MSD or other transistor digital ignition amplifier...... I know from experience the Bosch quad electrode platinum plugs won't.

I replaced them with V Power plugs but 2 heat ranges colder..... I put the same Bosch plugs in my wife's truck and they are still working 8 years later.

...I've had bad luck with Bosch Spark plugs on my first Neon and on the Mazda... For me, Bosch spark plugs are a no-no!! V-Power are great for the price if the plugs are easily accessible on the car!!

Are the V Power plugs resistor plugs? I would think they are if they are sold in Canada due to the dependency on radios in the less populated areas and laws there that require the use of resistor spark plug wires.

gapping iridium or platinum tipped plugs is a mortal sin. you can knock off the tip and be left with really expensive brand new normal plugs then, they come pre-gapped

just get the one that is for the L15 i dont think there are different ones unless you get a different temp range
