I recommend avoiding the AEM CAI

So I had been using the Fujita SRI for some time w/o issue. But the impulse buyer that I am resulted in the purchase of an AEM CAI from Tire Rack. The intake was on clearence for about $150 so I picked it up.

After installing it and using it for about two weeks I gotta say I'm dissapointed. After installing the intake I noticed a rattling sound during acceleration from stop through 1st gear. Obviously the sound is annoying and disturbing. Intially I thought that the filter was bouncing off the spash guard of the front tire. So today I finally got around to checking the problem and discovered that the intake tubing is actually hitting the engine mount during acceleration. I even have a Spoon Engine Torque Damper and the problem still persists. I took it off and it rattled even worse and through 3rd.

Long story short, I have cut and sandwiched a few old pieces of rubber intake coupler and wedged it between the mount and the intake tubing so that the pressure keeps the parts from bouncing and rattling from contact. I also sent a pretty lengthy email to AEM discussing the issue. I have never heard any one else on the forum having this issue with the AEM Intake however it seems that I am one of the few rare people that have on on the Fit. And trust me everything is installed correctly this is the third AEM system I have owned (99 Prelude, 99 Civic).

Any other users with similar issues?

Fixed the problem and I am embarrased!

Well, I have crawled under my car for the second time to see what I can do about the problem. All I can say is...I'm an absolute arrogant ass when it came to installing the intake.

I went ahead and pretty much unbolted everything related to the intstallation of the intake and discovered that I did not initially put the elbow off the throttle body at low enough angle causing the rest of the tubing to sit a tad too high and thus causing the rattling sound I kept hearing. Now that I have adjusted every thing the sound is gone.

I would highly recommend that if you purchase this intake be sure to tighten the coupler between the intake and the throttle body last to ensure you get the proper angle on every thing.

I am truly embarrased. And to think that I was almost felling like I had the balls to install a super charger or turbo on my own. I am an ass. Live and learn I guess.

I had one on my car that I purchased in 2006.... I had to remove the lower section and filter when it and all of the plastic crap on the front and underneath was torn off by an alligator..... I put a filter from AutoZone on the upper part that was undamaged and liked it better that way..... Now the intake I have is the one that came with the KWSC.

I like it that CHERK has class and showed it by admitting that he hadn't gotten the part adjusted right during installation..... I vaguely remember that mine also banged on a mount also.... Now I have to deal with the fact my wife raised hell that I paid what I did for the thing and it is now on a shelf.... $150.00 is a great price, it was $250.00 in 2006 when I got mine.

Cherk is a classy guy, I can vouch for him. Coyote you should try to sell the intake that sits on a shelf.

I only have the upper tube, clamps, rubber fittings and Specter A/C ..... It worked out very well as a short air intake, possibly even better than it did as it did full length.... It was easier to clean the filter without the bottom tube.

yeah fitment is a little close. i took mine off to install t1r raiator hoses and didnt have the bottom tube turned right, it vibrated against the fenderwell at low rpms. haha! it scared me, i kept,"thinking what is that? whats broken?" the next day after work i investigated, it only took a turn of the clamp and a twist of the bottom tube. and now all is good.
yeah you should sell the intake you got. better than sitting on a shelf.
