CR-Z 6-speed in a Fit?

Since the CR-Z uses a form of an L15 Fit engine, I wonder if the 6-speed manual transmission from the CR-Z could bolt up to a Fit... Food for thought.

I bet it would, but what are the external dimensions of the gearbox? And, more important, what are the ratios in the 6spd?

I wondered about this as soon as I heard it was available with a 6speed.

it will not work. unless you cut off the bell housing on your tranny and weld it onto the crz tranny. the power assist connection is right there through the bellhousing. i had a chance to tinker with the konig crz. its a pretty cool car, but the only things i really saw that were swappable are the suspension components.

your probably right but according to the owner book i have the assist motor is attached to the block not the tranny. either way im sure it wont work because of the assist motor.

what i saw was a large diameter wire lead with orage casing that plugged directly into the bellhousing. even if the actual assist motor is mounted onto the block behind the flywheel or in front of it, a custom flywheel would have to be made for it in addition to the bellhousing from the fit being welded onto it. i would really like to crack one open one day to see whats what.

You would get 5 lug wheels as well but you have to swap both front and rear.

Hmmm, doesn't the IMA electric motor on the CR-Z exist where the transmission would be? That might complicate things (that's an understatement).

Wouldn't this make the Fit slower off the line? Those are much taller ratios.

Looks like the next MMC Fit (2011) will have a 6-speed in the 1.5 RS model in Japan. That one should be a direct fit. Hopefully we get a 6-speed in the US - it would be a lot cheaper to source a used transmission without shipping overseas.
