need muffler suggestions
Since I am really not familiar with the current selection of mufflers I could use some input from the guys who've been doing it a while. I want something that flows well but I don't want it loud. Just axle back. Function is more important than Asthetics I can always tack on a stainless tip that I like. All input is appreciated.
There are a few ones avaliable.. the ones out right now are priced around 400-500.. Coming out mid July will be Aspec axle back priced at half of that.. Tanable is supposdly getting some exhaust out but not much is happenin in their thread.. BLAST THEM! oh well i hope that helps some
try taking the stock one out, only 2 bolts, and then hear it. If you like it then go to a muffler shop and have a custom pipe made to replace the stock muffler and PRESTO!. I did it,, it looks clean, it has a great sound, it is oviously less restrictive, and including the Magnaflow oval tip, they charged me only 90 bucks. Tell me if is not a great deal..... plus you take the stock one home and can put it back whenever you like, and one more thing..... you don't break any law by doing this, you can even pass inspection because you'll still have the cat and resonator.
I have read many threads, listened to the various exhaust. Now, I want a nice flow muffler that will compliment my Supa Sucka (SSI) intake. I don't need loud but a little deep sound would not hurt. I have 08 AT Sport. Please give me your feedback! (Seems like the HFP hangs too low for my use around here) Your help is certainly appreciated. You guys and ladies know this stuff and i don't. Thank you
a cherry bomb is WAY less stupid than any of the pre-fabbed axlebacks for the fit. but i have since gone back to stock. i much prefer having torque than noise
it's not just noise, but a muffler provides better looks than stock. If you're the car behind you, the stock tip looks so disgusting. I can't wait for my skunk. I'll take the noise/look combo and trade away some torque (which I don't see me losing any tq with a full catback anyway)
exhaust (ED)
I looked at the straight pipe idea but never gave it a try (thought about it) as I do not want that much noise. I supported the person who did it same as I support anyone who did what they wanted to do. It is their Fit. Since I have a little more air coming in with the SSI, I was thinking of a muffler that would help the exhaust move out. I appreciate the feedback and hope I get a few others. Thank you.
hmm...
maybe that wasnt you who recommended that straight pipe axle back.
cherry bomb is a bit of a different story. i wasnt refering to that.
i too have gone back to stock.
if you just want a lower rumble just take out the resonators.

Weld in a Magnaflow
Yesterday I drove around with the muffler off, and was suprised that I actually liked the sound of it. It had a bit of riceyness (sorry folks I came from a Mustang GT) but not too bad. Then I drove it to work. I have a long commute at freeway speeds, and the drone was too obnxious. So I went by a local muffler shop, and had them weld in a Magnaflow in place of the factory muffler. Its quiet, but deep, has a bit of noise at higher speeds, and best of all, with the tip I went with, it hides better than the factory piece. I really did not want a Fart Can hanging down, even though I love the sound of the Tanabe Concept G. I will try to post picks tomorrow, depending on how long I'm in line to vote. Best of all, I was out the door, for $120.
ive had my aspec axleback for a few days now and i love it. low deep tone and its not too loud either. i drove to san diego and vegas over the weekend and you dont even hear it cruising. i would put it in neutral on the freeway, than put it back in 5th when i needed to and you hear the exhaust for 10 seconds than the sound goes away. which was kinda weird, maybe my ears adjusted to it? lol
