2003 L13a swapped CVT to MT.. limiting at 4K RPM... ???

Well... all went well until we tried revving over 4K, then the cars seem to have like a rev limiter kick in. Yes I have a cell light on. Electricians can't seem to be able to "bypass" or "trick" ECU into thinking it's still a CVT. Speedo isn't hooked up at the moment.. different connectors... and I removed the cat converter.

I've been told to get a manual ECU.. or an aftermarket stand alone ECU.

Any ideas..suggestions...advice? Thanks.

PS. Why did i do this conversion? because CVT was shot, and I didn't want to covert it to a race car... so no K20. Thanks.

Sounds like "limp mode"

ECU is looking for something its not seeing. An MT ECU would probably be a good start.

Thought so. What about the key situation though? would I have to get it reprogrammed etc?
Would an aftermarket stand alone ECU do the trick?

Thanks for the reply.

i have made the same swap, and i can assure you, you need that MT ecu. I did mine, fully swap with gearbox, ecu, harnesses, meter cluster, etc...

Thank you for replying. So you say I'll need the harness as well? Which one? aren't they many? Could you kindly give me a list of the parts you had to swap out? Also, do I have to get the ECU from the exact year my car was manufactured or can I use an ECU from say a couple of years before or after the manufacture date?

hey trinisir. its a bit late to reply now. i dont even kno if you would recieve this reply but anyways. hoped your switch went well. i have a 1.3 gd1 and my CVT is giving me worries. i have never seen a 5 speed manual in my country. if you could advise me where or how to locate a 5 speed would be very helpful.

you are looking for advice? Sounds like you already got some. Get a MT ECU or stand alone

Not to be a jackass, but my car has a 4500 rev limit at a standstiill. It revs beyond that only if it detects the car HAS moved, or IS moving.

Kinda like when you start up, the daytime running lights are off until movement is detected, from then on, they stay on until the vehicle is shut off

You need a M/T ECU or standalone. I see people sell them on eBay for around $100-$200. Just ask them if it's an M/T ECU as most sellers don't specify.

Dont mean to sound like a negative Debbie Downer here but... don't do it! LOL

I got the box from England, bought all the clutch master/slave cylinders, lines everything from Lings Honda Parts | Genuine Honda Parts | Honda Cars | Honda Motorcycles | Honda Power Products | Lings Honda. I bought a manual ECU with key and door locks and everything to try to resolve my rev limiting issue, but turns out I need to reprogram the key at the dealership because the car won't start with the manual ECU plugged it... haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

My advice, sell the auto, and buy a manual, or if you really want to do this, I would say to get an entire front half from Japan (or elsewhere) as a donor. Or maybe some sort of engine swap? Hope that helps
