CRV B20B in the Virgin Islands

Hello folks, I'm new to this forum and need some help.
I bought my girlfriend a low mileage 1999 CRV from Japan.
Only 23,000km, perfect...she is very happy!
BUT we live on a small Island (Tortola) and the daily drive is up a steep hill then down.
The CRV does not have any low down torque thro the gears, we constantly need quick pick up after shifting to second. There is power there once the revs get up but we are talking steep hills. Also I would like more flexibility in 2nd, more grunt at low revs after slowing for an uphill corner and getting going again.
What can be done???

Hi again, come on then, anyone have any advice?
We have this great car with a great engine but I can beat it up the hill with my Suzuki Carry 660cc!
It runs perfectly but has no grunt thro the gears unless you rev the bollocks off it and drive it like a rally car!
The missus does not like doing that so is forever having to shift down to first gear if the power band is lost??

Somebody may be able to help you, but since this is a forum focusing on the honda fit you may be better off asking around other places as well. I do however drive a 2012 cr-v from time to time and it does honestly have quite a lack in power. I had to use it to haul around 400lb of apples before getting my fit and unless I shifted into low there was no power at all. The engine is just very small and does not produce the power needed to climb sometimes.

I would suggest looking up aftermarket engine performance for the 1999 crv and see what you can find and what the torque and hp curves look like to get things that help with the low down power.
