Ignition Timing Advance - 5 Cent Modification

5 Cent Modification

Old article I know! Desperate times calls for desperate measures. Anyone here try this with any positive/negative results? I'm very interested! Thanks!

Never considered doing this, but it makes sense in theory.

Before you go about mucking with things, what kind of timing are you pulling currently? Are you maxing out?

I'd be careful with things like these, I imagine modern ECUs use the coolant temperature to modulate quite a few things, besides timing. Just double check you know what you're messing with before moving forward. I'm sure is the reason for this thread, but like I say, I imagine you will probably be one of the trailblazers on here for the GK, so I don't expect a ton of responses.

Currently, the ignition timing maxes out at 15.5 at wide open throttle. However, it spikes up to 17-19 between 4000rpm and 5800rpm at wide open throttle before tapering off and settling at 15.5 (ONLY with a short ram intake). **92 Octane**

With a long ram/tubed intake, ignition timing goes up to 19-21 between 4000rpm and 5800rpm at wide open throttle before tapering off and settling at 15.5. **92 Octane**

When the car was completely stock, ignition timing never hit 15.5 on regular octane. It would always hover between 11-13 at wide open throttle. Can't remember what it did in between 4000rpm and 5800rpm. I have to check the logs when I get home.

You've got ktuner, right? Use that instead.
In desperate times, don't lose your head.

I would give this a shot and watch with the switch so you can gradually increase resistance to try adding a few degrees of timing. from that article however it would seem you would need to run one on your maf as well to make the car think its getting more air to help play with the af ratio. this is just basic caveman manipulation of a "smart" ecu.
