CF HOOD & Hatch

I emailed seibon and they told me that I need to use the pins for safety reason on both products?

Is there anyone using a seibon hood or hatch without pins? How safe do you think it is to run your car without pins? Help me out here guys... Don't want to F-ck up... Thanks.

Nacho

email from Seibon <~~ cool peeps too:

question: Do your carbon fiber hoods/hatch require pins?
Hi all of our hoods already comes with the stock latch but hood pins are required for safety reasons. Thank you.

question: Would there be a problem if I did not put hood pins? Or what safety reasons are the problems?
Hi as of the hood pins they are to protect you from the hood flying off at high speeds. Because of the hood being so super light they do need reinforcing. Thank you.

They say they are required because just incase they do fly open they are not liable. I ran my hood for over a year without hoodpins with no problems. Hatch shouldnt need it either.

So going 100 mph every now and then when going up north won't need pins? I'm new to the entire cf thing. Usually my driving is 65-70 mph. Every now and then 80-100mph.

no u wont need it. I had my seibon hood for about 1.5 years and no issues, and yes i took it numerous times over 100. I now have my carbon creations and it doesn't need it either. They only tell u that so they are not liable if the hood latch does fail, which it really won't with seibon or carbon creations due to the latch being built into the frame of the hood rather then just being bolted on like back in the days.

the hood is being pushed down more then pulled up anyways the faster you go the harder the air is going to push down the only real way it might fly off is if you forget to latch the hood all the way and decide to go over 100 then you might have a problem getting air under the hood and fly off.

i have a seibon hood as well and dont have pins in. Everyone I talked to (even my honda dealer) said i really didnt need them if its a latch hood. and the fit hood is so short that it would be really hard to get it to fly back anyways. I havent had any problems yet.

what everyone else has said about the liability issue is most likely true.
