Talking GD3 Rear Diffuser....Custom Fabrication

***CURRENTLY ON HOLD TILL I FIGURE OUT A NEW WAY OF MOUNTING (cardboard is becoming my new friend)***

I recently bought a Nighthawk Black GD3 and I was under it today thinking about creating a rear diffuser for it since I haven't seen one yet. It will run from the center of the car to the rear. So it will incorporate almost a full rear under try as well.

As of now, I just want to gauge some interest in who would like one of these if I decide to go through with making more of these once I've completed mine.

Construction will be out of sheet metal for now and possibly out of carbon once I have my template completed.

Let me know what you think!

First...don't make fun of my MS Paint skills

So...my plan is to go from the bolts in the front to the rear lip clips. Yes, I know, connecting this to the clips on the rear lip isn't a very strong anchor, but...the diffuser isn't going to be pulling down on the rear, its made to channel the air smoothly under the car. It will not be pulling down or pushing up on the rear. Once completed, there will be no need to make additional holes for bolts. Everything will be compatible with OEM bolt holes.

"Rough" mockup of the first panel minus the fins...haven't gotten to tat quite yet. This is with the stock bolts. Final product will have bolts that sit more flush. Hopefully accompanied by some finishing washers if I can find the right size. Final product may also be shorter then what i'd like due to the difficulty of bolting the tray to the 4 bolts toward the front of the car highlighted in the above picture. if someone wants a full length tray drilling would be required to mount.

so i ran into some complications today. I wanted it to be 65" x 24" but its just not going to work. I went all out trying to bend and connect the diffuser to the bolts toward the front of the car like I originally planned but it just didn't work out. So i'm deciding to shorten it up to 48" and run some bracing down the top of it to stiffen it up a little. I also has to trim the sides down to 20" instead of 24" due to exhaust clearance.

The heat pushed me back inside today since it was about 110 degrees outside today and my garage was no different. I'll start working on it tomorrow morning to see what I can get done before I have to go to work.

I just wanted to add that I'll most likely rivit the panels together to make them a little more sterdy

I've come to realize that this little project is a complete failure. I found out for myself why no company has made a diffuser for the fit yet....and that is because there is a huge lack of mounting areas in the rear of the car causing too much flimsiness in the material. So this project is going to sit in my garage for a little bit until i find a solution.

I was too but everything is so limiting underneath. I'll try to figure something out. Make it out of cardboard first. Cheaper trial and error haha

I'm almost positive that password jdm is the only company to produce a full undertray for the s2000. I have a s2 and have looked into this before

Lol, that's a Mugen underpanel for our little Fit!! Or actually it's for their Fit Dynamite concept, so it wouldn't quite fit our bumpers!

Will this be compatible with the Progress RSB that many of us have? I don't think it would be an issue...but I feel it's worth bringing up.

.:Edit:.
nevermind...just saw that this has been abandoned for the time being

Maybe I'll make a go at it haha. I've been needing an excuse to learn to weld

Once I actually figure out some mounting points i'll look into the swaybar question. I highly doubt that there would be a problem since I'm thinking the best way to create this with my limited amount of sheet metal tools will be to shorten it up a little and possibly wider. Only problem with going wide it the many different exhaust variations and their size and mounting. I'll keep everyone updated. I'm currently trying to find a local shop to get some bending done at.
