carbonfiber parts

ok before anyone says anything i searched
ok im thinking about CF as much as i can on my 09
and im thinking how much weight can the car lose really
cause the hood feels light 10-15lbs anyways and the hatch can't weight more than 30lbs
and i haven't seen any CF doors for the fits that would save weight big time or fenders for the 09
see what im thinking RS body kit CF hood hatch CF wing and wrap the car in CF vinyl

You will not find carbon doors that are for everyday use. Carbon doors are "race only". Any insurance company would instantly void your claim if you were in an accident. Carbon doors don't have the DOT mandated protection level that OEM doors have.

I have the JDP carbon hood and I doubt I saved more than 2-3lbs the stock hood is already pretty light. I can weigh them both if you like. I also have a JDP carbon spoiler but the stock unit is lighter. So I'm going to switch back. If you really want to save weight start with the wheels, seats, glass, etc...

I bet that CF hatch would save a few pounds, but I don't know how safe it would be on a daily driven vehicle. I wouldn't put it on mine I know that much. Same thing with CF doors like bmx said, they're supposed to be used in conjuction with a full cage with intrusion bars by the door. They have no strength and offer no protection in a collision, you might as well drive with the door open

I don't see a hood saving much weight either, the stock hood is incredibly light.

Go read through the Biggest Loser Fit Edition thread for weight reduction ideas, it's a good thread.

I really dont think the hatch has anything to do with the safety of the car. You ever seenpics of fits rear ended? They hatch is toast. Door yes those do provide protection.

My carbon hood netted a 3.3kg(7.25lbs) difference, stock JDM hood is 6.2kg(13.64lbs). USDM one is probably slightly heavier because of its greater length.

You want to lose weight, lexan windows will be your friend. I'm looking at a carbon roof, it isn't listed on J's site as of now, but it is available that lowers the weight by I want to say another 5kg(11lbs) which may seem like not much, but that is all HIGH weight. With the cage installed, that did put some weight up top, even though equal to about the weight of the removed rear seats, it is some weight higher up screwing with the CoG.

Carbon doors, if done in a dry carbon with dry carbon support beams will be as strong if not stronger than the doors the car came with. Of course, who here is going to pay upwards of $5000 for some doors?

I have CF because I like how it looks. Weight savings are very very minimal for the Fit. If you really want to save weight, start taking crap off the car - get rid of the rear seats, interior panels, glass (as mentioned by an earlier post), spare tire, jack, speakers, stereo, etc. Go with some light weight wheels and rubber as well.

I used to wax my hood monthly with either mothers or meguirs wax, and my hood has slowly been looking worse and worse. Some people say that normal wax is fine, but the above products seemed to work best for me.

surprised on hearing what little weight reduction is offered for the fit. I did not realize the hood/hatch were so light out of the factory.

The roof J's is offering I'm guesing would be an entire roof cap replacement correct?

It's not that surprising. Have you seen how small the hood is? And I'm not sure about the roof.
