Just bought a 2015 Fit
Yesterday I bought a 2015 Fit Ex 6mt. It has 123000 miles. I started a new job a couple months ago that puts me in a unique commuting situation and I've been watching for a car like this. When a semi-reasonable deal popped up on Bookface, by what appeared to be a real person trying to sell a real car, I responded immediately.
So here's the situation. I moved to California for this job. The pay is ok but nothing special. Needless to say, California gas prices are one of my concerns. Hence the econobox. Also, my work site is about 20 miles from my house and about 5000ft higher in elevation. So I'm driving up and down a mountain every day. My ride up until now has been a 99 Mitsubishi Montero. It's a good vehicle for what it is, but absolutely the wrong vehicle for my commute. It will be handy in the winter, though, when it snows starting at around 3000ft.
In the short time I've been doing this commute I've observed a couple of things. One, an auto trans definitely gets hot driving up the mountain. I happen to have a trans temp gauge on the Montero, and it can get hot if I don't keep an eye on it and downshift. I've had coworkers tell me that their car shut down for that reason. I'm not sure if they know from a warning light or what, but it's a thing that happens. Also, people burn through their brakes here by riding them all the way down the mountain. Sometimes I can smell hot brakes from a car ahead of me. I always downshift the Montero to keep my brakes cool. It's a 4 speed auto, so not many gear choices and not convenient to downshift. That's why I wanted the 6 speed manual.
I bought the Fit yesterday on my day off. I decided to drive it to work anyway, since I that's the whole reason I bought it and I wanted to see how it performs on the mountain. Holy shit, it's a huge improvement over the Montero. Most cars would be I guess. The Fit easily cruises up the mountain in 4th gear, and it drives like it's on rails. The mpg display stays around 20 up the mountain, which is what a coworker with a corolla said his shows. Down the mountain, I had so many gear choices and such a large rpm range, that I barely had to touch the gas or brakes at all. I just roll downhill for free.
So far I'm not too impressed with the gimmicky EX features. I would have preferred an LX. But none of that stuff is a deal breaker. Overall I really like the car.

Congratulations of your new (to you) Fit! When reading your post I was thinking that Fit is not great on downhill because the braking torque of the engine is rather low due to minimized internal friction losses, but I'm happy to hear it fulfills your expectations. Older less economical cars have much more engine braking torque even with smaller displacement.
