Take the plunge?
Take the plunge?
Howdy,
I badly need a car and there's a 2009 Fit Sport w/60k for sale in my area for $8,950. The car is immaculate, everything works. In fact it is so clean that I can't understand how the previous owners (it was a fleet car) kept it so nice!
The only thing I'm worried about is its age. I'm junking a 2007 Sienna with only 132,000 miles on it that looked perfect 8 years ago when I bought it but it turned out to be a total lemon!
So, today I need to either take the plunge, or walk away. I'm ready to abandon Toyotas and go for a Honda Fit, but would appreciate any input for you folks!
Thanks!

2009-2013 are essentially the same, with minor updates for the 2012 (and 2013) model year, so 2009 mechanically is not as old as you might think. 60k is pretty low mileage, and if it has had routine maintenance done there's not much to worry about. The engine can run a very long time with minimal work. There are multiple folks on this forum with 250k miles + on the original drivetrain.
While $8950 may seem steep for a 2009 car, the market is not normal in these times, with the exhorbitant price of the average new car keeping the upward pressure on used car prices. Finance rates are also affecting the availability of used cars (people are keeping their cars longer rather than buying, so there's less availability on the used market). So, my vote is to go for it. We're in the market right now for a 5-speed manual GE8 Fit Sport, and if I found a clean 60k car for $8950 we would purchase immediately...

I have a 2009 Sport and I bought it with 69K miles on it. I paid just over $9k for it after taxes and all the normal stuff. I would highly recommend it. I love the car. My only issue at this point is that my kids are growing and with the front seats all the way back, it's super tight for the kids. Luckily it's not my primary kid carrier. Since I have owned the Fit, I have out on 4500 miles on it and I am shocked at how fun it is to drive.
Get underneath it and look for rust. Ask if they have service records. Also check out how old tires and shocks and struts are. At this point it is a 15 year old car and while Fits are pretty simple and well built, it's a 15 year old car. Be prepared to spend on some catchup maintenance.
