Cool radio problems

I have a new fit sport and I love it! Only 1 problem and I wonder if anyone else has had radio problems-I have very poor radio reception and the 2 back speakers are not working. I have had my fit about 3 weeks. I notice the static coming and going when I am driving around-it gets worse when I drive under electricity lines. The antenna is not loose. CDs sound fine (except for no back speakers).

Also, in the sport is the aux port functional with a mini to i-pod addaptor or is it not wired at all? I've gotten different stories.

thanks-

Are you listening to AM or FM radio? Also, depending on your exact location, it could be that there is just a poor signal and not a problem with the radio. Any wireless transmission such as radio is subject to interference, and electricity lines are a good source of it.

As for the rear speakers, have you verified your fader isn't adjusted to the front speakers only? What happens when you adjust the fader to rear only? Did you make any changes to the stereo such as add a line converter for subs? If you've made no changes, and adjusting the fader to the rear produces no sound, I would say it's time to visit the dealer for repairs.

All I can speak for the radio is that I have not experienced any problems. The radio quality has been consistent with all of my other vehicles, including those with after market equipment.

Unfortunately, the problems, as you describe are pretty vague as they could be the result of the radio, or they simply could be a product of your environment. Post your troubleshooting steps and or town you live in and we can further help you.

As for the iPod thing, I don't have one, and I've yet to use my AUX port, so I cannot help there. I would assume it should work with the proper connectors, but you know what happens when you assume things...

Went out for a spin at lunch and oops-back speakers are working-BUT fm stations have static that changes as I drive around. I live near Richmond, VA and have mainly listened to 2 stations for years in many cars and got fine reception on these same roads-

I have an appointment tomorrow at honda service dept to get it checked out- I will let you know-thanks. nuwin, for quick reply

That's good to hear that the back speakers are working.

Hopefully the dealership can resolve your static issue. I've read in other posts that on occasion, the antenna wire doesn't get plugged all the way in.

The only other thing I can think of is how the speakers are arranged in the Fit. The sport has the tweeters way up high, possibly making the static more noticeable than other cars... I have noticed this in my vehicle. There has been no "new" static when listening to the radio, but I can definitely notice it more on occasion.

Best of luck.

What do you mean by "as I drive around"?
  • If the static changes from place to place, that's a reception problem. Unless your antenna cable is loose or broken somewhere, that's just because the stubby antennas that most new cars have are simply no good compared to the traditional quarter-wave whip.

(In this case, you probably don't have any problem with AM stations.)

If reception is the problem, your first step is to try another antenna.
  • If the static changes depending on how you drive, i.e. depending on whether you're accelerating or idling or whatever, then there's an electrical interference problem with your car.

(In this case, you probably have much worse static on AM stations.)

If interference is the problem, then your car has some wiring fault that the dealer should fix. They may be reluctant to do it, though, since it could be difficult to track down. You may get some benefit from a clip-on choke at the radio end of the antenna cable.
